Established in 1865, Dege & Skinner is one of Savile Row’s finest bespoke tailors and shirt-makers.Located at Number 10 in the very heart of Savile Row, we also host various overseas Trunk Shows to cater for demand for our bespoke tailoring and bespoke shirts.Recognised as one of the finest bespoke tailors of London's historic Savile Row, Dege & Skinner can make any garment, in any style, for anyone, anywhere in the world.Modelled here by two our wonderful customers, single-breasted coats tailored in two of four exclusive basket weave cloths, launched in 2025 to mark the 160th anniversary of the company's foundation.Well known for our business suits, overcoats and professional attire, we're often asked to make more relaxed leisure clothing, as well as equestrian clothing like riding and hunting coats, and all manner of more unusual pieces, like opera capes and smoking jackets.We design, cut and make all our bespoke clothing at Number 10 Savile Row to our own exacting standards and those expected of one of the oldest, continually operated bespoke tailoring companies in the world.Customers have the assurance that our expert cutters and tailors spend a minimum of between 60 - 80 man-hours to produce a 3-piece bespoke suit, 55 hours for a 2-piece suit and approximately 40 hours for a bespoke coat.

As a bespoke tailor with our own workshop here on Savile Row, everything from the cut of the pattern, the choice of cloth, the unique details of each bespoke creation is personal to each customer, meaning we can in fact make anything that’s desired and we do like a challenge!Within our team of cutters, coat makers, trouser makers and finishers we have unique, specialist expertise that is now rare to find.Tailoring details like frogging, lacework, metal thread embroidery and many other highly skilled techniques are utilised in our cutting room and workrooms in Savile Row, where all our bespoke clothes are cut and tailored.Training and apprenticeships have always been integral to the success of Savile Row. It's absolutely vital that the skills practised here are passed from one generation to the next. So we currently have a number of talented apprentices working under the guidance of our cutters and specialist makers.

Some of them have technical skills that are award winning and are often put to good use creating some extraordinary clothing and uniforms.

Dege & Skinner is world famous for its military uniforms. Using in-depth knowledge honed over more than 150 years we are known for beautifully crafted military attire.We regularly visit the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst to meet, measure and fit officer cadets for their regimental Mess Kits.And Managing Director William Skinner regularly visits Archers' Hall in Edinburgh, the club house of the 'Royal Company of Archers', HM The King's ceremonial bodyguard in Scotland.Military accoutrements such as Mess Wellingtons, spurs, gloves, buttons, rank badges and medal mounting can also be provided upon request.

To complement our bespoke tailoring and bespoke shirt-making services we introduced our first ready-to-wear collection in 2016.Managing Director William Skinner has chosen the finest cloths and classic styles for our two-piece suits, blazers and formal dinner suit (tuxedo).Head Bespoke Shirt Cutter Tom Bradbury has designed the cut and collars of our ready-to-wear shirts and he oversees production of all our 'Made in England' shirts.We also sell a range of accessories including ties, braces, pocket squares, cufflinks, dress studs and formal dress-wear for black-tie occasions and weddings.Suits, shirts, blazers, formal black-tie attire and accessories are available to buy exclusively online here and from the shop located at number 10, Savile Row.

[H1] Bespoke Tailoring Process
If you're about to embark on your first bespoke tailoring experience, here's a helpful step-by-step guide so you know what to expect. All our bespoke clothing is designed, cut and made here at Number 10 Savile Row.
Firstly, we’ll discuss where and how the clothing will be worn to help us select the best fabric bunches for whatever you wish to have made. This meeting can take place at our Savile Row shop, at your home, office or during one of our trunk shows.Secondly, we’ll take your measurements. Approximately 35 measures and figuration notes, as well as photographs are taken.
Using all of the information gathered during our meeting a unique personal paper pattern is then constructed by your cutter.One cutter is dedicated to each individual customer and is responsible for overseeing the entire making process, from the initial consultation to the delivery of the finished garments.Your paper pattern, personal measurements and full details of all your orders are available to view at any subsequent appointments. Viewing these will give you a rare insight into a normally unseen part of the bespoke tailoring process.Your own highly skilled cutter will work closely with his or her specialist coat maker, trouser maker and waistcoat maker to create exactly what each customer might desire.
Once all parts of the paper pattern are complete they’re laid onto the cloth you chose, then drawn around using tailoring chalk. Cutting along these chalk lines using large tailoring shears, we create the individual panels of each garment.At this stage all the internal canvases, lining and other components such as fixings and fasteners are selected and ‘bundled’ together in the cutting room.This ‘bundle’ is now ready for one of our specialist in-house tailors to sew together for what is known as a ‘baste fitting’. This work is done in our modern workroom, located underneath the shop.
At the first baste fitting you’ll try the garments on. This enables your cutter to analyse the fit, balance, size and shape, based on the original measures taken for the construction of paper pattern. All parts of this process are discussed to help you get a sense of how the clothes are going to look once the agreed alterations have been made.Your unique fitting notes and paper pattern are then adjusted accordingly using the information gathered and the chalk marks made during this baste fitting.The tried-on garments are taken apart and flattened again. Then the adjusted paper pattern is used to make adjustments to the original pattern.
At this stage, garments are returned to the workshop and taken to a further stage of completion with hand-sewing of the linings, pockets and much of the internal details.Our team of ‘makers’ are specialists. They each train in either coat-making, trouser-making or waistcoat making, taking between two and six years to become fully trained, depending on the discipline they chose to learn.
A ‘forward fitting’ is then carried out and all garments are tried on with any adjustments noted and discussed. Any further alterations are again initiated on the paper pattern and then the clothes themselves.Once you’ve had your forward fitting, the final stages of hand-stitching can take place, including handmade button holes. Your bespoke clothing is then given a final hand-press before the buttons are sewn on by hand.
Your bespoke order is now complete and ready for collection or delivery to an address of your choosing.And, we have an exact two-dimensional pattern unique to you, that can be used in the future to create new clothing or can be adjusted for future orders.Simon Crompton from leading menswear blog ‘Permanent Style’ asked us to make a tobacco coloured, linen suit which he first wore in Florence, saying “There will always be a place in my wardrobe for this type of sharp English tailoring. And Dege & Skinner is perhaps my favourite of such English tailors I have tried…”.Simon’s suit was cut by Head Bespoke Cutter, Nicholas De’Ath in 2016.
