Information Density — The Lens

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Info Density Power-words vs. Substance ratio.
22 Impact Weight: 30 / 100
73% Reputation

The site exhibits high information density, particularly on the Sustainability page which avoids fluff in favor of hard data. It cites a specific B Corp score of 153.6, a net-zero target of 2040, and a commitment to 80% regenerated cellulosic fibers like Lenzing ECOVERO and TENCEL. While the homepage uses some promotional power words like ‘effortless’ and ‘essential’, the body substance ratio is significantly higher than industry averages due to the inclusion of validated carbon reduction targets and specific philanthropic donation percentages.

Information Density is read straight from the body copy: how much of the text carries grounded, checkable substance versus hollow filler. Below is the clean text the engine analyzed, then the industry’s known generic-claim patterns to weigh it against.

[H5] Sustainability

Sustainability is part of who we are. It shapes every choice we make, from design and production to packaging and partnerships. We don’t see clothes as disposable. We see them as pieces to be worn, shared, repaired, and loved. We see business as a force to drive progress – for workers, communities, and the environment.

PURPOSE

We are proud to be a B Corp, a certification that reflects our commitment to ethical practices, gender equity, responsible growth, and environmental stewardship. Our purpose also extends beyond our own operations: we support global initiatives like the Better Business Act, The Climate Pledge, and the Fashion Pact, and we partner with charities to give back to communities, from supporting women into work to aiding those experiencing homelessness.

Unlike certifications that only cover a product or supply chain, B Corp assesses our whole business, from how we treat workers, to our environmental footprint. We first certified in 2021, and in 2024 we recertified with a score of 153.6, one of the highest in fashion. For us, B Corp isn’t just a certification, but a framework woven into our culture and long-term strategy. It guides how we grow responsibly, strengthen supplier partnerships, champion gender equity, and reduce our impact on the planet. You can learn more about our scoring here, through the B Corporation website, or here, in our 2024 Annual Impact Report.

Our Commitments and Partnerships

At House of Baukjen, we align with global frameworks and coalitions that drive positive environmental and social impact. These signatories and memberships hold us accountable and reinforce our mission to be a business for good.Better Business Act We support the Better Business Act, advocating to change UK law so that all companies are legally responsible for benefiting workers, customers, communities, and the environment — not just shareholders. The Climate Pledge As signatories to The Climate Pledge, we are committed to reaching net-zero carbon emissions by 2040 — ten years ahead of the Paris Agreement. This includes measuring and reporting emissions, implementing decarbonisation strategies, and neutralising any remaining emissions. The Fashion Pact As members of The Fashion Pact, we collaborate with global fashion brands to tackle the industry’s environmental challenges. We are committed to ambitious action in three key areas: climate, biodiversity, and oceans. Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Our near-term emissions reduction targets have been validated by SBTi, meaning they are in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C. This ensures our climate actions are science-backed and credible. Textile Exchange’s Material Change Index We disclose annually through the Material Change Index (MCI), a leading global benchmark for sustainable materials sourcing. Our participation demonstrates transparency and continuous progress toward lower-impact fibres and responsible sourcing. We Mean Business Coalition Through the We Mean Business Coalition, we stand with thousands of businesses calling for bold climate action and policy. We advocate for the transition to a zero-carbon economy and support efforts that accelerate systemic change.

Philanthropy

We believe in ‘giving back’ and take pride in working alongside key global organisations to lead towards a better world. As a business, we aim to donate at least 10% of our profits each year to charities.Cancer Research UK In our commitment to making a difference, House of Baukjen donates clothing throughout the year to Cancer Research UK. These donations support their shops and raise essential funds for life-saving research, treatment development, and patient support services across the UK. Crisis Through consistent clothing donations, House of Baukjen helps fuel the incredible work Crisis does to end homelessness. These contributions aid their fundraising efforts and retail initiatives, making a tangible impact in helping people rebuild their lives and find secure housing. Dresses for Angels At House of Baukjen, we’re deeply moved by the work of Dresses for Angels, who lovingly create garments for babies who have passed away. By donating fabrics and clothing, we help ensure this meaningful work continues to bring comfort to grieving families during the most difficult times. Smart Works Helping women feel confident and prepared for the workplace is at the heart of our partnership with Smart Works. We donate clothing all year round to support their styling and interview coaching services. During the Black Friday weekend, we took this a step further, donating one item of clothing for every order placed. It’s our way of giving back and helping women achieve their potential. Royal Trinity Hospice House of Baukjen proudly partners with Royal Trinity Hospice to contribute to the compassionate care they provide. Through regular clothing donations throughout the year, we’ve helped raise nearly £10,000 to support their services. This ongoing collaboration reflects our shared commitment to community and sustainability.

PLANET

Caring for the planet is at the heart of our business. We see environmental data not as an exercise in disclosure, but as a foundation for real change. Carbon, energy, water, biodiversity, chemicals, and waste all matter, and we focus first on the areas where our footprint is largest, where we can make the most difference. We are committed to the Paris Agreement and the global goal of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C, and we actively track regulatory developments to ensure our business aligns with evolving climate and sustainability requirements. Carbon is a particular focus: our approved Science Based Target aims to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 50% by 2030 from a 2018 base year, while we measure and work to reduce Scope 3 emissions across our value chain. We are also proud to participate in international initiatives that amplify our impact, including the Fashion Pact, promoting decarbonisation, biodiversity protection, and ocean stewardship, and the Amazon Climate Pledge, committing to net-zero carbon by 2040. You can learn more about our footprint here, in our 2024 House of Baukjen Annual Impact Report.

Circular Practices

We ensure that no garments are sent to landfill or incineration, as we see our clothing as being of value and not as throw-away items. Unsold stock is either listed on our Outlet, donated to charity, or recycled, ensuring clothes are given a second life wherever possible. Since 2021, our take-back scheme has allowed customers to return clothes they no longer wear. From our warehouse, garments are sorted: those in excellent condition are refreshed in our Ozone Chamber and listed on our Pre-Loved platform, giving them the chance to be worn again and enjoyed by others. Pieces that are still in good condition but not suited for Pre-Loved can be passed to charity partners, while items nearing the end of their life are sent to recycling partners. This approach is particularly meaningful for maternity wear. Clothes designed to grow with you can now have multiple lives across pregnancies, helping parents keep their wardrobes stylish, functional, and sustainable. Beyond resale, we encourage Care & Repair practices to extend the life of every item, and we design timeless styles from high-quality materials, so garments remain wearable for years to come.

PRODUCT

Our products are designed with intention. At Isabella Oliver, we create products for longevity, circularity, and lower environmental impact. Each collection is developed with timelessness in mind, favouring durable materials and designs that retain their value in use and in resale. We focus on doing more with less: prioritising fewer, better garments made from lower-impact fibres, backed by trusted certifications and traceable sources wherever possible. Each design choice we make reflects our values and our vision for a more regenerative fashion industry.

Our Materials

We carefully choose every fabric we use, balancing style and responsibility. Our design criteria are reviewed regularly and guided by independent frameworks. This helps us reduce reliance on high-impact fibres and increase the use of lower-impact alternatives. Here at Isabella Oliver, on average, 80% of our collection comes from regenerated cellulosic fibres; the majority of which from Lenzing AG’s LENZING™ ECOVERO™ Viscose and TENCEL™ Lyocell. These materials are not only lower impact but also soft, breathable, and comfortable to wear. We only use synthetics where they are necessary for durability or performance, such as elastane to give that extra stretch as your baby grows. To learn more about the fabrics we use at Isabella Oliver, please visit Our Fabrics. LENZING™, ECOVERO™ and TENCEL™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.

A Circular Future

From the materials we source to how we reduce waste at every stage; our design and production teams work together to embed circular thinking across the product lifecycle. We design with longevity in mind, so our Isabella Oliver pieces grow with you through pregnancy, adapt to your changing body. Our commitment to circularity is reflected in the decisions we make during the design and development phase. We have removed trims where they are unnecessary and reduced where they are. When included, we strive to use trims made from the same raw material as the garment fabric, enabling easier mechanical recycling. Circularity also means producing only what is needed. Our merchandising and production teams collaborate closely to forecast demand with precision. By analysing historical data, customer trends, weather patterns, and calendar events, we work to strike the right balance between responsiveness and restraint to avoid the overproduction.

Chemicals and Testing

We believe beautiful clothes should never come at the cost of human health or the environment. That’s why we manage chemicals carefully at every stage and comply fully with UK and EU REACH legislation. Our Restricted Substances List (RSL) sets strict limits on over 100 chemicals of concern, including formaldehyde, heavy metals, azo dyes, and PFAS, going beyond legal requirements. All suppliers must adhere to this list and provide evidence through certifications or independent testing.Suppliers are responsible for ensuring that all components, process chemicals, and auxiliaries comply with our RSL. We monitor compliance through laboratory testing, documentation checks, and targeted audits, and work with partners to address any issues that arise.

Packaging

From design to delivery, every choice is made to reduce waste and ensure that packaging can be recycled or composted at home, reflecting our commitment to a circular and responsible approach throughout the product journey. Our packaging is plastic-free, made from FSC-certified paper and cardboard, printed with water-based inks, and sealed with a certified biodegradable glue strip. Boxes and envelopes are sized carefully to reduce waste, and hangtags are printed on FSC card with an organic cotton string and fully compostable PLA closure. Our B2B packaging is also designed to minimise impact. Cardboard boxes are reused wherever possible, plastic tape is avoided in favour of kraft alternatives, and polybags are either recycled or replaced with fully home-compostable PLA bags for third-party shipments.

PEOPLE

At House of Baukjen, we believe fashion should never come at the expense of people. As an accredited Living Wage Employer, we ensure fair pay and foster a workplace culture built on respect at our Camden studio and beyond. That same commitment runs through our supply chain. We work closely with our manufacturers to uphold high ethical standards, ensure safe and fair working conditions, and build long-term partnerships based on trust and shared values.

Our Supply Chain

All of our Tier 1 suppliers, and many Tier 2–3 partners, are based in Europe, where factories operate under strong labour and environmental regulations. But we don’t rely on statutory safeguards alone. Every supplier must sign our Supplier Code of Conduct, aligned with the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), which prohibits forced and child labour, protects workers’ rights, and sets fair wage standards with a preference for living wages. Our sourcing agents in Portugal, Turkey and the UK work closely with factories to monitor conditions, encourage improvements, and strengthen accountability. Portugal remains our key production hub, alongside Turkey, where we visit almost all manufacturers each year to ensure high standards. Many of our partners hold ISO 9001 certification, and none of the dyehouses or mills we work with use coal, instead relying on renewable energy, grid electricity, or natural gas. Our supply partners are not just vendors: they are skilled professionals who share our vision of a fairer, lower-impact fashion industry.

Our Head Office

Our people are at the heart of House of Baukjen. From our Camden studio, we design collections and drive forward sustainable fashion, supported by a culture that values curiosity, collaboration, and wellbeing. We foster an inclusive and respectful workplace, guided by our Code of Ethics. To give back, every employee receives two paid Volunteer Days each year to support causes that matter to them. Our recruitment process is designed to be open, fair, and bias-free, with flexible working options promoted in every role. At Baukjen, we believe that treating people fairly and with dignity is fundamental to building a thriving, purpose-led business. We’re proud to be an accredited Living Wage Employer, ensuring that everyone, including regular contractors, are paid at least the real Living Wage. This is independently calculated each year to reflect the true cost of living across the UK, and we review salaries annually to meet this commitment.
