The chiton, the ceremonial garment worn during prayers to the Olympian gods, is a symbol of Greek culture. In the apparent simplicity of a white cloth, expertly stitched with a single seam, lies the attention to detail that makes its appeal timeless. Only those who can perceive it understand its deeper meaning. And it is precisely to this tradition that we sought to pay homage with our name: Kiton.”

Our story is unbreakably interwoven with an obsession with quality, style, and Neapolitan sartorial tradition.

Kiton was founded in 1968 to create handcrafted clothing and convey a deep love for dressing well.
In Arzano, a small town on the outskirts of Naples, Ciro Paone began producing 50 garments a day in a small workshop. Within just 20 years, this workshop had grown into an 36,000-square-foot factory. Success was immediate: Kiton offered not only men’s jackets, but also shirts and ties, and the company had already grown to employ 150 people. Signs of this growth included the showroom in Milan, a city symbolic of a market that was increasingly focused on the brand, in addition to the maison’s U.S. headquarters in New York, providing a vantage point for capturing the evolution of style and taste worldwide.

Expansion was unstoppable in the 2000s, beginning with a forward-looking project: the School of Haute Couture.
The idea is to train future generations of tailors, preserving the Neapolitan tailoring tradition and passing the love for timeless elegance on to young people. Alongside the project, Kiton made acquisitions that enriched its wealth of expertise: a historic company in Parma specializing in outerwear, a knitwear factory in Fidenza, and a woolen mill in Biella. Building on its renewed expertise, Kiton opened its Beijing Head Office in 2007. Eight years later, the brand expanded further with new boutiques in Hong Kong, Moscow, San Francisco, and Paris, as well as the new Palazzo in Milan at 21 Via Pontaccio, the former home of Gianfranco Ferrè’s maison.

The future of Kiton is focused on continuing its tradition of sartorial excellence while embracing innovation and experimentation.
In 2021, the second generation of the family embraced Ciro Paone’s moral and entrepreneurial legacy, relaunching Kiton’s values with a focus on technological innovation and sartorial experimentation.

By perfecting each step in the production process day after day, and the vast knowledge accumulated over time through craftsmanship. Ciro Paone was aware of this. So that each person, like in a large family, can become a custodian of the knowledge behind creating a garment, contributing to its improvement through their own work, and then passing it down to future generations.

It is a tradition that we renew every day, exporting to the world—from New York to Beijing—the creative flair that sets us apart.

For Kiton, gender equality is fundamental: we have always supported mothers and women because we believe they are a key driver for the growth of both the company and society.

Kiton is inherently environmentally sustainable: our tailors have always worked with nothing but needle, thread, and scissors.
All of our production is completely handmade, which is why it has a minimal impact on the environment. In fact, the only substance emitted from our workshops is steam from the boilers. We also use only environmentally friendly substances in fabric processing and washing stages. Combining performance, durability, and eco-sustainability, we experiment with new yarns that have a higher degree of biodegradability.

Our commitment is to continually become more environmentally sustainable.
For several years now, we have been renewing the life cycle of our production by extending the life of our garments through our revitalization service and donating unsold items to charity. Since 2021, our packaging has been completely environmentally friendly, with the elimination of PVC. Additionally, our packaging, plastics, hangers, and shopping bag handles are all eco-friendly. Finally, we have installed solar power systems at our company, which will help us reduce CO2 emissions by 220 tons annually. We have also inaugurated the Environmental Sustainability Division.

VICUÑA
Vicuña is the most valuable and coveted yarn in the world. The Incas called it “The fiber of the gods,” and Europeans compared it to gold due to its incredible fineness, with an average diameter of just 12.5 microns.

Kiton’s “Pure Vicuña Yarn Project”
Vicuña has allowed us to lay the foundations for a new production line. Its lightness, ductility, softness, and thermoregulatory properties endow this fabric with unmatched excellence—an icon rich in history and a myth passed down from the ancient Andean cultures. Thanks to its unique characteristics of lightness and sophistication, it was quickly chosen as the queen of haute couture at Kiton.

In 2012, Kiton invented new qualities of vicuña with innovative characteristics, certified by a rigorous system.
After years of research, we developed a technique to produce fabrics that are even thinner than those traditionally used for jackets and coats. This yarn enabled us to be the first to create vicuña pants. This research also gave rise to “Vicuña 97+3”: an incredibly thin yet extraordinarily resistant suit, made of 97 percent vicuña and 3 percent silk with vicuña fiber. From there, the journey began that led to the creation of textured and colored Vicuña, Summer Vicuña, Vicuña Denim, and Jacquard Vicuña.

Externally, Vicuña Denim has a uniform color and a soft, delicate, velvety feel. The absence of an internal lining allows you to appreciate the denim effect created by a special fabric made of vicuña yarn combined with cashmere and silk.

[H3] Summer vicuña

Kiton’s Summer Vicuña is produced using nanotechnology in two weaves: the first is an ultra-light twill, and the second is a herringbone with an iridescent effect, infused with the shades of solaro. Traditionally offered in classic colors like beige, blue, and black, we were the first to develop a technique for dyeing vicuña safely, allowing us to present a range of colors never seen before: green, royal blue, brown, and burgundy.

In 2019, we presented the new variety of Jacquard Vicuña. A masterpiece that enhances Kiton garments with geometries, patterns, and designs of rare beauty, woven directly into the fabric. The combination of Jacquard and vicuña wool is a rarity— a fabric that is soft to the touch and light, yet incredibly warm and comfortable.

The Arzano headquarters house the only existing example of white Vicuña yarn, made using the ancient shearing process, which is now prohibited. This fabric has a more substantial consistency, and due to its rarity and value, the Paone family has decided not to use it for garment production, despite numerous requests from Kiton customers.

Lanificio Kiton Carlo Barbera produces the maison’s exclusive wool fabrics. Masterpieces of lightness, they feature an ultra-fine micron that can only be compared to the precious vicuña, making them perfect for creating tailor-made garments for true connoisseurs.

The unit of measurement of excellence
Kiton is the only company in the world that measures fabric quality using microns. Instead of using the traditional classification (120’s, 140’s, etc.), Ciro Paone chose to measure fabric quality in microns, the original unit of measurement for wool, which refers to the fineness of the animal’s hair before any processing. Modern industrial techniques treat yarns by gradually thinning them, but this effect is only temporary, as the fabric’s physiological properties eventually revert to their original state. Therefore, the use of the micron provides indisputable proof of the authenticity and superior quality of Kiton fabrics.

The thinnest wool in the world
Kiton’s exclusive technological innovation has produced the thinnest wool ever made. It took years to source the limited global stocks and obtain this precious fiber, renowned for its exceptional thinness. This is why, at Lanificio Kiton, we use the micron as a benchmark for guaranteeing the quality and fineness of our fibers. We offer fabrics with thicknesses of 13.2 microns, 13.14 microns, 13 microns, and even as fine as 12.8 microns. The result is an incredibly delicate, ultra-light fabric that even experts often mistake for silk. From this extraordinary fiber, jackets are crafted with a soft, smooth feel, combining ultimate comfort with sartorial perfection. This ultra-fine wool is also used to craft solaro, a timeless symbol of masculine elegance. The ideal fabric for crafting deconstructed, half-lined, or unlined suits—an epitome of sartorial luxury that demands the meticulous time and skill of artisanal craftsmanship.

Wool jersey
Inside our wool mill, we have created the first-ever 12.9-micron wool jersey. The 12.9-micron nomenclature reflects the delicate nature of this exceptional yarn, whose quality is further enhanced by the properties of jersey, including extraordinary elongation stability and incredible elasticity in expansion. This is why Kiton wool jersey jackets are not only perfectly constructed, but also softer and more casual. They gently embrace the body, offering unmatched freedom of movement.

Our cashmere boasts unique qualities: it is incredibly soft to the touch, lightweight to wear, and both breathable and insulating. It is a noble fabric that adds an aura of elegance to casual outfits and elevates formal garments, such as the iconic Kiton jacket.

The quality of our cashmere
We select only the finest cashmere available worldwide. Then we use only the thinnest and softest part of the undercoat of the Hircus goat, sourced from controlled farms in Mongolia, to create fabrics that are incredibly warm, soft, and long-lasting. The ultra-fine fibers provide a velvety sensation against the skin. Each of our cashmere garments is crafted with the utmost attention to detail, as every piece is entirely handmade. It is precisely the craftsmanship of our tailors and the quality of the fibers used that make it exceptionally soft, yet highly durable over the years. The weaving of this exceptional fabric is entrusted to an old English woolen mill that still operates using traditional methods, with antique looms and cardboard presses.
