We have Family, Adult, Teens, Kids (9-12yrs) and Grom (6-8yrs) groups. One of the keys to becoming a better surfer is having fun with people of your age or experience. The easier it is, the more fun you have.

Lahinch Surf School is based at the beach hut on Lahinch promenade in Lahinch County Clare on the west coast of Ireland. Here Lahinch Surf School provides a friendly, safe and fun introduction to the exhilarating art of surfing.

Former Irish Surf Champion John McCarthy and his crew of surf-dude instructors invite you and your friends to come and experience the thrill and excitement of surfing at Ireland’s best known Surf School. John started Lahinch Surf School out of a desire to surf and live on the west coast and to share the thrill and ‘STOKE’ of surfing. You are very welcome to Lahinch Surf School where surfing classes and surf lessons come highly recommended.

Surf Rentals

[H2] RENTALS

Surf Rentals are available at Lahinch Surf School. We have a full range of BIC hard boards and 1 and 3 fin soft boards.

Rental sessions are based on two hours and rentals are made from our beach hut at the end of Lahinch promenade. All rentals have to remain at Lahinch Beach. To rent you need to be a good swimmer, an advanced or intermediate surfer and be over 18 years of age (for insurance reasons).
Conditions vary so much at Lahinch Beach, so on choppy days we only rent to advanced-level surfers. No matter what level you are at you can always learn so much in a two-hour surf lesson, it’s safer and usually easier for yourself.

●  Rentals are €20 for boards, €10 for suits (boots, gloves and hoods available depending on conditions) or €30 for everything altogether for up to two hours.●  It is best to call in advance and we can advise you on tides, conditions, availability and the best times to rent.

Lessons are held in waist deep water so you don’t need to be an amazing swimmer. Each Lahinch Surf School lesson is 2 hours long, 80-90 minutes of which is spent in the water.The most popular choices for adult surfers are the 2 Hour Surf Lessons and the Weekend Surf Courses
For Teen & Kids & Groms we run Surf Camps in Summer & School holidays.
Kids and teens can join the camps doing 1 – 5 lessons in the week.

‘Summer 2026″  We will run Grom, Kids and Teens camps. Max 8 per Instructor.
Welcome to Lahinch Surf School where our Summer Surf Camps come highly recommended. We take seriously the art of making surfing friendly, safe and fun.
In 2002 Pro Surfer, John McCarthy introduced the now infamous “5 Day Surf-Camp”, the first of it’s kind in the west of Ireland. Years later we are still perfecting and adapting the camp to make it safer, more exciting and more fun. It’s a great way for kids and teens to enjoy the sea and learn a new sport.Camps Start 29th June and run all summer.

KIDS SURF CAMP is for Age 9 to 12

TEEN SURF CAMP Ages 13 to 17

GROM SURF DAILY LESSONS for Ages 6 to 8

Prices:Teens & Kids 5 day surf camp (2 hours each day) costs €140.Grom 5 day surf lessons (1.5 hours each day) costs €35 per day or €140 for the week.Individual or one-off lessons also available.

What to bring
• Kids need to bring their swimming togs, towel and a smile!• We provide the equipment, boots, wetsuits and surfboards.

When are the kids camps cranking?
The fun begins once the schools close!Easter, Summer and October midterm.Contact us for Camp times which are calculated months in advance.We will have camps running throughout the summer until late August. Easter camps for kids/teens run during the two weeks of the Easter School Hols.

Equipment
No need to bring your own boards for the first two days, we’ll make a decision after that if your own equipment is needed.

Qualifications and Safety
• All our instructors are Irish Surfing Association Approved Coaches, Irish Water Safety Approved Beach lifeguards and wicked surfers. More importantly they are patient and caring teachers of the art of surfing.• Under ISA regulations there is a maximum of 8 children for each of our qualified instructors.• All lessons are held in waist-deep water so your children do not have to be strong swimmers. Kids should be confident in the water.• Kids are supervised both in and out of the water• ISA Approved: In 2005 we became the first surf school in County Clare to become Irish Surfing Association Approved.

What if the conditions do not suit & Cancellations
Unfortunately some days the waves are too wild for our young ones – high winds bring stormy seas.We withhold the right to cancel surf lessons when we feel conditions are not suitable. If days are cancelled we provide a refund.A day that is cancelled by Lahinch Surf School or by the parents CAN NOT BE USED ON A DIFFERENT week. One days notice must be given for cancellations. Refunds are made on the following basis: 5 days cancelled €100 refunded, 4 days cancelled €70 refund, 3 days cancelled €45 refund, 2 days cancelled €25 refund, 1 day

Our school tours are designed to bring out the best in students and fill them to the brim with info on all things surf-related – waves, environment, tides and surfing techniques with plenty of entertainment from our instructors thrown in for good measure. In surfing terms – stoketastic!Alternatively combine your Surf Lesson with us and visit one of County Clares greatest assets, chose from:Bunratty Castle, The Cliffs of Moher, Ailwee Caves, Doolin Cave or Ferry to Aran islands or under the Cliffs of Moher from Doolin.

It is often difficult when bringing Sixth Class on tour to find a balance between educational value and enjoyment.
The boys and girls really enjoyed the surfing, for the majority it was their first experience on surf –board, but your crew were very patient and encouraging. They really had a ball.
The pupils were fascinated with your excellent presentation on the reading of the tides and general meteorological information. The Beach Games were the icing on the cake as your team related so well to the pupils and they had great fun.

[H3] Here’s your chance to get a personalized, one-on-one lesson with a highly trained and qualified Lahinch Surf School instructor!
Always wanted to improve your skills? Looking to get some one-on-one advice about your ability? This is a great opportunity to advance in your ability as a surfer. You have an expert at hand to offer advice,  answer questions and ultimately help you improve in a friendly, safe and fun environment!You can surf one-on-one with your own instructor or have an instructor assigned to your own private group, this is a very effective way to learn exactly what you need to know in a short period of time (away from the masses!)
[H4] Our Instructors are experts Level I, II and III Instructors and know how to make the most out of your surfing ability!
The lessons are 2 Hours long with 80 to 90 minutes spent in the water. We provide the equipment but if you have your own equipment you are welcome to use it for private lessons.
