Information Density — The Lens

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Info Density Power-words vs. Substance ratio.
24 Impact Weight: 30 / 100
80% Reputation

The site exhibits high information density with specific nouns and numbers, citing a 190m studio size and a 26-year instructor tenure. Body text ratio is lean, focusing on technical protocols like ‘spinal articulation’ and ‘small, pulsing movements’ instead of generic power words. A 3-point penalty is applied for the high frequency of intro-offer restatements (5+ instances) across the service pages.

Information Density is read straight from the body copy: how much of the text carries grounded, checkable substance versus hollow filler. Below is the clean text the engine analyzed, then the industry’s known generic-claim patterns to weigh it against.

[H2] FAQ
Find answers to your questions about our classes and how to prepare for them.

[H4]

What is Pilates, and is it right for me?

Pilates is a low-impact exercise method designed to improve strength, flexibility, and posture while promoting mindful movement. It’s suitable for all fitness levels and can be customised to your specific goals or physical needs.

[H4]

Do I need experience?

No prior experience is necessary to join our classes! If you are a novice (or are just a little unsure) we recommend that you book our Fundamentals Class. Our instructors are trained to accommodate all skill levels, ensuring a supportive environment. You’ll receive personalised attention to help you progress at your own pace.

[H4]

How do I get to Luma?

It’s easy – we’re right in the heart of the New Town. Full details are on our contact page.

[H4]

What should I wear?

We encourage comfortable, form-fitting clothing that allows you to move freely. Avoid baggy clothes so instructors can see your alignment and please wear grip socks for safety and hygiene. Your clothing should be appropriate for a fitness environment.

[H4]

What else should I bring?

We recommend bringing a water bottle to stay hydrated during your class. A towel is also useful for personal comfort. We also ask that mobile phones are switched off or set to silent.

[H4]

When should I turn up?

We recommend arriving 10 minutes before your class. Any earlier and our front door might be locked for security.

[H4]

What if I’m late?

We understand that life can be unpredictable. However, for safety reasons, latecomers will not be allowed to participate if they arrive after the class start time. Our cancellation policy will apply.

[H4]

Can I do Pilates if I have an injury?

Short answer: maybe, and gently. Pilates can be a brilliant way to support recovery, build strength and improve mobility, but it really depends on the injury and where you’re at in your healing journey. We always recommend getting clearance from your physio or doctor first. Let our instructors know before class so we can offer modifications and help you move safely and confidently. When in doubt, go slow, listen to your body and choose rest when you need it.

[H4]

Can I book for someone else?

Yes, absolutely. You’re welcome to book a class for a friend or family member, just be sure you’re not double booked into the same session yourself. Guest bookings are for non-members only, and spaces are limited, so we recommend booking ahead to avoid disappointment.

[H4]

Can I book a class and pay at the studio?

Sorry, no. We are unable to take unpaid bookings. Payment has to be made online in order to secure your space in class.

[H4]

What is the cancellation policy?

We require a minimum of 12 hours' notice for cancellations of group classes and 24 hours for private classes to avoid being charged. This allows us to offer your spot to another client. Please refer to our service terms for more details on our policies.

[H4]

How do your waitlists work?

If a class is full, you’re welcome to join the waitlist. If a space opens up, you’ll be automatically moved into the class and we’ll let you know by email, so make sure your notifications are switched on. And if your plans change, you can remove yourself from the waitlist at any time, just like cancelling a class. If you’re moved into a class within 12 hours and no longer want the spot, the usual late cancellation rules apply. Please make sure you have credit on your account when joining a waitlist.

Mat classes are a wonderful complement to Reformer work, and a brilliant entry point if you've never tried Pilates before. Without the Reformer's assistance, your body has to do more of the work itself – which makes mat deceptively challenging and deeply rewarding in equal measure. You'll build core strength, improve your posture, increase flexibility and develop the kind of quiet body awareness that carries into everything you do off the mat.Classes move through a flowing sequence of exercises on the floor, working the whole body with an emphasis on control, breath and precision. Your instructor will offer modifications so you can work at your own level, and progressions when you're ready to go further. One of the things our clients love most about Mat is how portable it is. The strength and body knowledge you build here goes everywhere with you – no Reformer required.Suitable for all levels. If you're brand new to Pilates, Mat is a great place to start alongside our Fundamentals classes.

[H2] Mat Pilates FAQ

[H4]

What is Mat Pilates and how is it different from Reformer?

Mat Pilates is the original form of the discipline, practised entirely on the floor without equipment. The Reformer adds springs and a sliding carriage that can both assist and resist your movements; the mat removes that support entirely. This makes mat work harder in some respects – your core and stabilising muscles have to work without assistance – but also means you can practise anywhere, any time, without equipment.

[H4]

Is Mat Pilates good for beginners?

Yes – Mat is one of the most accessible ways to start a Pilates practice. Classes at Luma are taught at a pace that works for all levels, with modifications offered throughout. If you're already attending Reformer Fundamentals, adding a Mat class is a great way to reinforce what you're learning on the equipment.

[H4]

Will Mat Pilates help with back pain?

Mat Pilates is frequently recommended by physiotherapists for back pain management and rehabilitation. The focus on core strength, spinal mobility and postural awareness addresses many of the underlying causes of back pain. As always, we recommend getting clearance from your physio or GP before starting if you have an existing condition, and letting your instructor know so they can offer appropriate modifications.

[H4]

How is a Luma Mat class structured?

Classes move through a flowing sequence of floor-based exercises covering the whole body – abdominal work, spinal articulation, hip and leg series, and upper body sequences. The emphasis throughout is on control, breath and precision of movement rather than speed or volume. Expect to finish feeling worked, lengthened and calm.

[H4]

Do I need to bring my own mat?

No – mats are provided in the studio. You're welcome to bring your own if you prefer. Grip socks are required for all classes; we sell them in the studio shop if you need a pair.

[H4]

Can I do Mat Pilates if I'm also attending Reformer classes?

Absolutely – in fact, combining mat and Reformer work is one of the most effective ways to develop your practice. The mat builds raw strength and body awareness that feeds directly into your Reformer work, and vice versa. Many of our regular clients attend both.

[H2] Grace, strength and people who really know their craft. Luma Barre
The classes themselves blend the precision of Pilates with the elegance of ballet: small, controlled movements that target the muscles you didn't know you had, combined with sequences that build genuine strength and improve your posture in ways that stay with you long after you've left the studio. Expect to work at the barre, on the mat, and occasionally with light props. Expect also to be surprised by how much a tiny movement, done with perfect intention, can ask of your body.No dance experience needed – not even close. Barre is for anyone who wants to move with more grace, build functional strength, and be taught by people who have dedicated their lives to understanding exactly how that's done.Suitable for all levels. [H2] Our Barre Instructors
Luma’s Barre instructors bring backgrounds in professional dance and years of specialist training to every class. Serena's career in professional dance gives her an instinctive, deeply-trained understanding of form, alignment and how the body moves under load. Mylène brings a beautiful fluency across Barre, Mat and Yoga that makes her classes feel seamless and considered. And Liron has nearly two decades of teaching behind her and the kind of quiet authority in a room that only comes from that level of experience. Between them, they bring something you simply can't fake – a genuine, embodied knowledge of movement that you'll feel from your very first class.

[H2] Barre FAQ

[H4]

What is Barre and where does it come from?

Barre is a fitness discipline that draws on the training methods of classical ballet, combined with elements of Pilates and strength training. The name refers to the ballet barre – the horizontal handrail used for balance during part of the class. You don't need a dance background to practise Barre; the movements are adapted for all bodies and fitness levels, and the focus is on strength, posture and functional movement rather than performance.

[H4]

Is Barre good for weight loss and toning?

Barre is highly effective for building lean muscle tone, improving posture and increasing overall body strength. The high-repetition, low-impact nature of the work creates muscular endurance and definition without bulk. Combined with the postural improvements that come from consistent practice, most clients notice significant changes in how their body looks and feels within a few weeks.

[H4]

Do I need a dance background to do Barre?

Not at all. Our instructors teach Barre for all bodies and all backgrounds – the movements are explained and demonstrated clearly, and modifications are always available. Some of our most enthusiastic Barre clients are people who have never danced in their lives.

[H4]

How is Barre different from Pilates?

Barre draws on ballet-inspired movements and incorporates the barre for balance, with a stronger emphasis on lower body work – particularly the seat, hips and thighs – and cardiovascular elements that Pilates doesn't traditionally include. Pilates has a broader focus on full-body integration, core strength and spinal health. The two complement each other beautifully, which is why many of our clients attend both.

[H4]

What will a typical Barre class involve?

Classes typically begin with a warm-up, then move through barre work (exercises performed holding the rail for balance), centre work on the mat, and a cool-down stretch. You'll work through sequences targeting the legs, seat, core and upper body – often in small, pulsing movements that create a deep burn in targeted muscle groups. Props such as light hand weights, resistance bands and small balls may be used.

[H4]

Is Barre suitable during pregnancy?

Barre can be suitable during pregnancy with appropriate modifications, but we always recommend getting clearance from your midwife or GP first. Let your instructor know before class so they can guide you through safe alternatives where needed. Kat, one of our Yoga instructors, also holds a specialist Prenatal qualification if you're looking for pregnancy-specific movement classes.

[H2] Yoga FAQ

[H4]

What styles of Yoga do you offer at Luma?

We offer a range of styles depending on the class and instructor. Vinyasa Flow is a dynamic, breath-led style where movement and breath are synchronised – building heat, strength and cardiovascular fitness. Yin Yoga involves long, passive holds of floor-based postures targeting the connective tissue – deeply restorative and meditative. We also offer specialist sessions including Prenatal Yoga, Postnatal Yoga, and Yoga for Perimenopause and Menopause. Check the class description when booking to confirm the style.

[H4]

Do I need to be flexible to start Yoga?

This is the most common misconception about Yoga – and the answer is absolutely not. Flexibility is something Yoga develops over time; you don't need it to begin. Our instructors teach to the room and offer modifications throughout, so wherever your body is right now is exactly the right starting point.

[H4]

What is Yin Yoga and how is it different from other styles?

Yin Yoga involves holding floor-based postures for several minutes at a time, allowing gravity and time to work into the deeper connective tissues of the body – fascia, ligaments and joint capsules – that more active styles don't reach. It is deeply restorative, meditative and particularly effective for releasing chronic tension and improving joint mobility. It's an excellent complement to more dynamic practices or to Reformer Pilates work.

[H4]

Do you offer Yoga for menopause?

Yes. Kat holds a specialist certification in Yoga for Perimenopause and Menopause and brings genuine expertise to this area. Yoga can be highly effective for managing many of the symptoms associated with perimenopause and menopause – including sleep disruption, anxiety, joint pain and mood changes. Check the schedule for Kat's specialist sessions, or get in touch if you'd like guidance on which class is the best fit.

[H4]

Is Yoga suitable during pregnancy?

Prenatal Yoga can be wonderfully supportive during pregnancy – helping with discomfort, breath awareness, and preparation for labour. Kat holds a specialist Prenatal and Postnatal Yoga certification and offers dedicated sessions for pregnant clients. We always recommend checking with your midwife or GP before starting, and letting your instructor know your stage of pregnancy before class.

[H4]

How is Yoga at Luma different from a gym yoga class?

Our Yoga instructors are specialist teachers with years of dedicated training and practice – not fitness instructors who also teach yoga. The emphasis at Luma is on the quality of attention: alignment, breath, the integrity of individual postures and the overall arc of a class. If you've only experienced Yoga in a gym setting, a class at Luma is likely to feel noticeably different.
