The cuisine of the Indian sub-continent is made up of different subtle tastes and flavours, it is as varied as the climates and the people, with their distinct cultures and traditions, within this vast land.
Curry is at the heart of all the different cuisines, but there are clear variations among the many regions. For example, the Bangladeshis have a preference for fish dishes with rich sauces served with rice, whereas in South India and Pakistan, the preference is for spicier meat dishes accompanied by bread and chapattis.
At Shozna, we bring you the best of these different heritages to give you an eating experience that is rich in exquisite tastes and flavours of the East. We are proud to present mouth watering dishes to suit every taste, including Moghul food, the mythical ‘Food of Kings’! All our dishes are prepared by our regional, national and award winning Head Chef.
Authentic Indian cooking is an art achieved through generations of refinement.
Exotic spices are at the heart of the rich flavours of Indian cooking. Spices used also have many medicinal benefits (patients during from flu are often advised to ‘have a curry’ by their doctors!).
Garlic’s anti-infection properties support the body’s immune system, lower cholesterol and act as a digestive stimulant.
Turmeric stimulates the secretion of bile; anti-inflammatory agents have been said to ease stomach pain, and it is an antioxidant. It is applied in a paste form, in Asia, to relieve morning sickness in pregnant women.
Cardamom is a natural coolant as it lowers body temperature in extreme heat. Used in a homoeopathic medicine, it is reputed to have a calming effect.
Green Chilli activates the pain sensors in the mouth, which in turn activates the brain to release painkilling endorphins to relieve pain elsewhere in the body.
Coriander aids digestion and is believed to enhance male potency.

In 1996, Shozna first opened its doors in Strood, on the borders of the historic city of Rochester. It’s Indian and Bangladeshi cuisine met with huge success and received numerous awards at national and international level.A second Shozna was opened in Maidstone Road, Rochester in 2005, where it maintained its successful offering of a unique culinary experience.Shozna is now solely based in Rochester where the focus is on providing you with the excellence you would expect only from select restaurants in cosmopolitan city centres.Shozna has evolved into a restaurant which offers you a choice of contemporary Asian cuisine with a choice of settings: we can offer you the more casual ambience of the ground level dining room, vibrant and full of energy, or the elegant charm and tranquillity of the upper dining room.Our Executive Chef Jamal Ahmed (known as Jay) and Restaurant Associates continuously endeavour to improve and redefine traditional recipes using only the finest ingredients.
