Did you know that rooibos is one of Time Magazine’s Top 50 Superfoods? Long celebrated as an entirely natural and delicious healthy drink, scientific studies are now beginning to unlock the secrets behind its wide-ranging benefits.

[H2] NATURALLY CAFFEINE FREE

The rooibos bush (Aspalathus linearis) simply doesn’t contain caffeine. Traditional black or green tea, on the other hand, comes from caffeine-containing Camellia sinensis. Natural stimulant caffeine isn’t necessarily harmful, but consumed in excess, it can interfere with sleep, intensify anxiety and cause physical effects such as jitters and heart palpitations.

Rooibos is packed with powerful antioxidants – most notably aspalathin and nothofagin – protective plant compounds unique to rooibos.Scientists say that regular consumption of antioxidants can help protect against free radicals, which have been linked to conditions from heart disease to diabetes.

They’re what accounts for the bitter flavour in green and black teas, and they can interfere with iron absorption. Our rooibos (sometimes known as Redbush) is still harvested by hand and cured in the traditional way, as it was when Grandfather Benjamin Ginsberg founded Rooibos over 100 years ago. The process takes place in the crisp air of the Cedarberg Mountains of South Africa's Cape. It requires great skill to know when the cure is at its peak; one sign is that it begins to give off a delicious sweet aroma that attracts wild bees.

I do wish it was available in boxes of 80 per the original tea and that merchandise, such as tea caddies, were also available in Earl Grey styling.
