Nestled on the picturesque Isle of Mull, Tobermory Distillery is located in the colourful harbour town of Tobermory; just a scenic ferry ride from the west coast of Scotland, it's a hidden gem waiting to be discovered.

[H2] HOW TO GET TO US?

[H3] BY ROAD AND FERRY
The most direct route to reach Mull is by ferry from Oban to Craignure. Ferry sailings on this route generally take around 45 minutes. Please note that sailing times may vary depending on the operator and can be impacted by weather conditions. For this popular route, it’s recommended to reserve tickets in advance, especially if bringing a vehicle. You can book tickets and find more details at CalMac’s website. Once you arrive in Craignure, it’s about a 40-minute scenic drive to Tobermory. Please keep in mind that travel time may vary depending on traffic conditions along the island’s winding roads.
[H3] BY PUBLIC TRANSIT
On arriving on the Isle of Mull, there is a regular bus service to Tobermory from Craignure ferry terminal. Please note that the bus does not meet every ferry, so check the bus times in advance.  The bus service is operated by West Coast Motors and stops right outside the distillery.

If you arrive on Mull without a car, there are a few taxi companies which can help you get around the island. These can be booked in advance (advised), or upon arrival (subject to availability).

Our production tours and tastings accommodate 12 visitors, with a selection of spaces reserved for walk-in bookings. However, spaces are limited, so we recommend booking your distillery experience ahead of arrival.

[H4] Do I need to book to visit the distillery?

If you would like to attend one of our distillery experiences, we ask you to book ahead of arriving, as spaces are limited. You can do this online https://tobermorydistillery.com/pages/distillery-experiences. If you would just like to come and see us in the Visitor Centre, you do not need to book in advance.

[H4] I've booked a distillery experience, what should I do when arriving at Tobermory?

Please aim to arrive about 10 minutes before your experience is due to start. When you arrive at Tobermory, please park in the public Ledaig car park if you have a car, and come to the Visitor Centre (clearly marked white building beside the garage). Let a member of the team know you're here and they'll take you to the experience when it is ready to begin.

[H4] What should I wear to my distillery experience?

Not all surfaces at the distillery are completely level, so we would recommend you wear sensible footwear (no high heels or flip flops). If you are attending one of our warehouse experiences, please wear warm clothing as the warehouses are kept at a consistently cool temperature.

[H4] I'm running late for my experience, what do I do?

If you are running late, please let us know as soon as possible by calling the Visitor Centre on +44 (0) 168 830 2647 (please note, you may not always get phone signal on the island, particularly in some of the more remote areas). Please report to the Visitor Centre when you arrive and a member of the team will take you to the tasting or tour area. Please note, we cannot start a tasting or tour outside of the available booking times, so you may miss some information if arriving late.

[H4] I've booked on an experience but I'm the designated driver. Will I still get whisky?

If you're driving, we offer 'driver's drams' so you can take away the whisky or gin tasted in the experience to enjoy in your own time at home

[H4] Can I cancel my booking?

Unfortunately we cannot issue any refunds for cancellations. If you cannot make the tour time chosen, please contact the distillery as soon as possible as bookings can only be changed at the discretion of the distillery and are subject to availability.

[H4] Can I bring my children to the distillery?

Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult at all times, whilst on the premises. Anyone who appears to be under the age of 25 may be asked to present a valid photo ID or passport as proof of age in order to taste or purchase any alcohol, in terms of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005. Children of all ages are welcome inside the Visitor Centre itself. Children under the age of 12 years old are not permitted inside of the production areas therefore are unable to attend our Distillery Tours. Furthermore, anyone under the age of 18 years old are unable to attend our Warehouse 1 experience.

Well behaved pets are welcome in our Visitor Centre, however, due to health and safety, pets are not permitted in production or drinking areas.

[H4] Is there public transport from the ferry terminal to the distillery?

Yes. West Coast Motors operates a regular bus service from Craignure ferry terminal to Tobermory, timed to connect with CalMac ferry arrivals. The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and runs through the scenic heart of Mull. Once in Tobermory, the distillery is just a short walk from the town centre on the main harbourfront. Taxis on Mull are limited — if you need one, we recommend booking well in advance. The bus terminal is directly outside the visitor centre doors

[H4] Do I need to book the ferry in advance for the festival?

Yes — we strongly advise booking your ferry crossing well in advance, especially if you are travelling with a car. June is one of the busiest months on the Isle of Mull, and the Oban to Craignure route in particular is heavily in demand. Foot passengers generally have more flexibility, but booking ahead is still recommended. Visit calmac.co.uk to check timetables and secure your crossing. Fishnish-Lochaline, Tobermory-Kilchoan – are turn up and go ferries and they operate on a first come, first served basis

[H4] How do I get to the Tobermory Whisky Festival on the Isle of Mull?

The Isle of Mull is served by three CalMac ferry routes. The most popular is the Oban to Craignure crossing (approximately 45 minutes), which connects to a regular bus service to Tobermory. If you are travelling from the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, the Kilchoan to Tobermory ferry (approximately 25–35 minutes) drops you directly in Tobermory — perfect for festival day. For those coming from Fort William or Inverness, the Lochaline to Fishnish route (approximately 15 minutes) is a convenient and cost-effective option. All CalMac routes are operated by Caledonian MacBrayne; visit calmac.co.uk for timetables and to book in advance.

For hotel accommodation during the Tobermory Whisky Festival, Tobermory is the most convenient place to stay, with a variety of hotels within easy walking distance of the distillery and festival activities. Popular choices include Western Isles Hotel, Park Lodge Hotel, The Mishnish and Tobermory Hotel, all of which provide a comfortable base for exploring the festival and the wider island. As June is one of the busiest months on Mull, accommodation books up quickly, so we strongly recommend securing your stay as early as possible.

The Whisky Rooms offers one of the closest stays on the island, situated right next door to Tobermory Distillery. Originally part of the old distillery layout, this charming guesthouse gives whisky lovers a unique chance to stay at the heart of the action. Managed by Isle of Mull Cottages, guests at The Whisky Rooms are welcomed with miniature bottles of Tobermory whisky, purchased directly from the distillery. Due to its prime location and popularity during the summer and festival season, availability is extremely limited, so early booking is recommended.

For a more comfortable outdoor stay, there are also glamping pods and shepherd’s huts available across the north of Mull, offering a blend of island scenery and modern comforts within a short drive of Tobermory.
