Neville Opiricians in Whittlesey to check out their newest innovation – a line of designer spectacles you won’t find anywhere else, with colours and styles curated and badged exclusively for the store by Jan Neville, the company’s founder, and owner.
Names ‘No 18’, the range offers clients a number of different looks – from sleek contemporary to chunky retro. It also provides a number of colours and finishes, as well as high-quality manufacture: all frames are handmade and hand-finished in Italy.

It was a rainy Saturday morning back in September 2005 when we opened our doors in Whittlesey with plenty of enthusiasm, local support and family backing. Hard work, personal attention and professionalism have helped us stand out, bolstered by that twenty years experience gained working in Peterborough city centre.
This working environment has enabled us to bring a wide choice of designer frames and sunglasses to Whittlesey — a range of products that is fashionable, contemporary and competitively priced, including Oakley, Rayban, M.Kors, Valentino, Versace, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, CK, Silhouette and Red Bull Racing.
We marked the anniversary with a complete makeover, changing our colour scheme and logo, with new paintwork and signage for the shop front.
To complement our more colourful look we were proud to introduce a new range of colourful eyewear from groundbreaking Ronit Furst. These are not mass-produced frames, but real craft pieces. Each frame is hand painted in Israel, so the patterns and colour combinations vary, making each one unique. The finish shows the individual brush stokes and texture of the paint which is then coated to protect and seal the finish.
This is how the designer describes these small works of art:
“The frames are designed to look different from any angle, with fine detail and tiny embellishments, graduated colour schemes and asymmetrical designs. The ethos of the range is to create quirky, individual styles that capture the wearer’s personality”
Ronit Furst also dressed our window display for the occasion, giving it a real burst of colour. J Neville is dedicated to delivering the unique and original for true individuals. [H1] Protect Your Eyes This Summer
These days, we’re wise to the potential damage the sun’s rays can do to our skin —everything from painful burning to skin cancer. While travelling abroad or enjoying the summer sun — when we tend to be more exposed — we routinely take appropriate precautions to avoid that damage and tend to be pretty clued up about which sunscreen factors to use.
How often, though, do we check that our sunglasses are giving us the same kind of protection? Our eyes are the most sensitive parts of our bodies, and as such are even more vulnerable to this type of UV damage — but unless specified, sunglasses won’t give your eyes the protection from UV rays that is needed. In fact, unless a pair of sunglasses promises 99-100% UV protection, you shouldn’t even think about buying them. Many people buy their sunglasses from a fashion or clothing store because they want to make sure their sunglasses are up-to-the-minute or closely match their personal style. But visit an optician, and you can choose highly-covetable, designer sunglasses that also have guaranteed UV protection. And if you usually wear glasses, then an optician can create prescription sunglasses for you, using frames of your choice, and supply expert advice on fit and shape, so the delicate eye area of your face is also protected from the sun.

[H2] Eye Exams

At the start of the eye examination, your optometrist will ask why you are having your eyes examined, whether it is a routine check-up or if you have come for a specific reason. If you are experiencing problems with your eyes or vision your optometrist will need to know what symptoms you have, how long you have had them and whether any changes have happened suddenly or slowly over a period of time.
Your optometrist will also need to know about your general health including any medication you are taking, whether you suffer from headaches, or have any close relatives with a history of eye problems. You will be asked about your previous glasses or contact lenses. In addition, your optometrist may ask about the kind of work you do and whether you play sports or have any hobbies.

If you wear or want contacts, you need a contact lens exam in addition to a comprehensive eye exam. We will perform special tests during a contact lens exam to evaluate your vision with contacts. The first test will measure your eye surface to determine what size and type of contacts are best for you. We may also do a tear film evaluation to make sure you have enough tears to comfortably wear contacts.
With the results of those tests, we’ll provide a contact lens prescription that is the right fit for your eyes. A standard examination is no substitute for a contact lens exam because the two are very different. Once you have the correct fit and prescription for contacts, you’ll need to decide whether you want disposable contacts or extended wear.We will fit you with a trial pair of contacts and have you wear them for a few days before starting a longer term prescription.
