Voith’s operating business is bundled in three Group Divisions: Voith Hydro, Voith Paper, and Voith Turbo.
A large proportion of the world’s paper production is manufactured on Voith paper machines. A quarter of the energy generated worldwide from hydropower is produced with turbines and generators from Voith Hydro. Voith’s drive components are found in applications all over the world, both in industrial plants and in road and rail vehicles, as well as on the waters.

Increasing mobility calls for vision

Electrification, digitalization, urbanization: For the most important megatrends of our markets we offer innovative solutions that consistently open up new approaches for our customers. At the same time, we are a partner they can depend on. This makes us a vital trailblazer for the worldwide mobility transition on rail, road and water. Because increasing mobility calls for vision.

There’s no alternative to alternative drive systems

We are continually expanding our existing range by electrifying our products. Depending on requirements and area of application, we therefore enable our customers to continue to build on our longstanding expertise and innovative strength into the future.

In the case of maritime applications, this expertise is deployed, for example, in the electrification of the propulsion system of ships. The best example of this is the electric Voith Schneider Propeller (eVSP): Thanks to its powerful, directly integrated permanent magnet electric motor from ELIN Motoren, a subsidiary of Voith Turbo, it delivers high torque and a fast response time. Without any gears whatsoever.

The result is a reliable, energy efficient, environmentally friendly and compact drive unit that is ideal for offshore and ferry applications and for use in tugs.

With our eVSP, we are taking an important step towards the electrification of the propulsion system in ships – and thus to a shipping industry that is even more eco-friendly.

The questions of today call for digital answers

Increasingly, we are responding to the future challenges in the mobility sector with digital innovations. For example, we are specifically combining our longstanding experience in the manufacture of drive technologies with valuable efficiency gains. Ultimately, this benefits our customers.

For example, our existing product range is already facilitating a secure data connection within the scope of the digitalization of rail freight transport. Digital automatic couplings like the CargoFlex open up entirely new possibilities that make rail freight much faster, safer and more efficient and help reduce emissions in accordance with the European Green Deal.

The result: safer transport and resource-conserving vehicle operation as well as a much faster and more extensive availability of goods all over the world.

Via the integrated e-coupling, our CargoFlex offers a stable data connection and is therefore accelerating the complete digitalization of rail freight.

There’s no alternative to alternative drive systems

From energy transmission in power plants to the transport of raw materials or the powering of machine tools: There’s no alternative to alternative drive systems. Based on our longstanding experience in the drivetrain, we enable our customers to make a timely shift to even more efficient drive technologies.

As a technology partner and driver of innovation, we are making a sustainable contribution to the transformation of industry – and through the electrification of our products ensure their competitiveness into the future. For example, with this in mind we have developed the electric drive system E-Pack together with ELIN Motoren, a subsidiary of Voith Turbo. This gives our customers a highly efficient package solution from a single source.

The combination of electric motor or generator and gear unit is characterized by its robust construction and compact design. Compared to conventional designs with parallel shaft gear unit and separate connection couplings, the E-Pack reduces the required installation space by approx. 30% in length and 10% in width. This is an important aspect for systems where space is at a premium, e.g. in the offshore segment.

From compressors and pumps to generators: Wherever space and weight restrictions and high efficiencies are crucial, the E-Pack is the ideal solution.
