VEMLIDY is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic (long-lasting) hepatitis B virus (HBV) in adults with stable (compensated) liver disease.
VEMLIDY may lower the amount of HBV in your body.
VEMLIDY may improve the condition of your liver.

What is the most important information I should know about VEMLIDY?
VEMLIDY can cause serious side effects, including:
Worsening of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. Your HBV infection may get worse (flare-up) if you take VEMLIDY and then stop taking it. A “flare-up” is when your HBV infection suddenly returns in a worse way than before. Do not stop taking VEMLIDY without first talking to your healthcare provider, as they will need to monitor your health regularly to check your liver.

What should i tell my healthcare provider before taking vemlidy?
All of your medical conditions, including if you have end stage renal disease (ESRD) or HIV-1 infection. Your healthcare provider may test you for HIV infection before starting VEMLIDY. If you have HIV and only take VEMLIDY, the HIV virus may develop resistance and become harder to treat.
If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if VEMLIDY will harm your unborn baby. Tell your healthcare provider if you become pregnant during treatment with VEMLIDY.
If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. VEMLIDY may pass into your breast milk. Talk with your healthcare provider about the best way to feed your baby.
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements. Some medicines may affect how VEMLIDY works. Keep a list of all your medicines and show it to your healthcare provider and pharmacist. Do not start a new medicine without telling your healthcare provider. Ask your healthcare provider if it is safe to take VEMLIDY with all of your other medicines.

What are the possible side effects of vemlidy?
New or worse kidney problems, including kidney failure. Your healthcare provider should do blood and urine tests to check your kidneys when starting and during treatment with VEMLIDY. Your healthcare provider may tell you to stop taking VEMLIDY if you develop new or worse kidney problems.
Too much lactic acid in your blood (lactic acidosis), which is a serious but rare medical emergency that can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get these symptoms: weakness or being more tired than usual, unusual muscle pain, being short of breath or fast breathing, stomach pain with nausea and vomiting, cold or blue hands and feet, feeling dizzy or lightheaded, or a fast or abnormal heartbeat.
Severe liver problems, which in rare cases can lead to death. Tell your healthcare provider right away if you get these symptoms: skin or the white part of your eyes turns yellow, dark “tea-colored” urine, light-colored stools, loss of appetite for several days or longer, nausea, or stomach-area pain.
The most common side effect of VEMLIDY is headache.
These are not all the possible side effects of VEMLIDY. Tell your healthcare provider if you have any side effect that bothers you or that does not go away.

[Betsy]I’m Betsy. I’m a mother of four. My husband and I both work full time, and we are constantly running around.
We do competitive cheer, wrestling, soccer, ballet, sometimes basketball, and it’s a very full and fun life, and it is very busy.
I was diagnosed with hepatitis B in 2007. Right after I found out I was pregnant, they did a routine blood test and discovered it then. I didn’t have any symptoms of hep B. The referring physician kind of just sent me on my way, told me it was no big deal, so I just didn’t really ever think about it.
So, about 14 years later, my mom was getting just a random scan, and they found a tumor on her liver. It was diagnosed as HCC—hepatocellular carcinoma.
I started doing some research. I came across hep B over and over, and the doctor did confirm that the cancer was a result of the hepatitis B. We realized that my mom probably had hep B for a really long time, and we had no idea.
When we found out that she had cancer, I was devastated. I can’t imagine life without my mom. She is everything to me.
Around that time, I consulted with my GI. My hep B levels were low, so we didn’t really worry about it, but months later, I was feeling so tired all the time. I couldn’t get through a full day. I had to start taking naps.
I was so tired that I started forgetting when games were. I was beginning to miss everyday moments like helping the kids with their homework or sending them off to school before they went to the bus just saying, “I love you.” So, that was hard.
So, I finally followed up about a year later, because things were busy, and found out that my hep B levels were really high, and my liver enzyme levels were also very high.
I didn’t realize that my numbers could jump so quickly within just a few months. I was 38 years old. I knew I had to do something about my hep B.
I work in the pharmaceutical industry, so I knew where to look and what I was looking for in a treatment.
My doctor and I talked about many different options, and we decided that VEMLIDY was the right treatment for me.
She made sure that I understood that VEMLIDY wasn’t a cure, but it could help lower the amount of hep B in my body, and it could improve the condition of my liver.
My doctor and I discussed any other kind of medications that I was taking that might interact with VEMLIDY.
She told me that the most common side effect of VEMLIDY is headache.
Together we decided to move forward with VEMLIDY.
After just months of taking VEMLIDY, my doctor told me that my hep B virus levels were undetectable, and my liver enzyme levels were back into the normal range!
I felt that I could finally enjoy those everyday moments with my kids, and I could be there for them.
Of course, this is just my experience. Everybody’s experience with VEMLIDY may be different.
If you’re living with hep B, I think it’s important to know that you can do something about it and to talk to your doctor to see if VEMLIDY is the right option for you.

I’m not just staying on VEMLIDY for me. I’m staying on VEMLIDY for everybody that I love.

I’m Frank. I’m 56 years old.
I live in Fountain Valley.
I am married. I have three daughters.
I'm active and I love to exercise outside, and it's easy to do where I live in Southern California.
I'm originally from South Vietnam and my brother and I left when I was only nine.
We left on a wooden boat with nothing but clothes on our back.
I was very scared and we didn't know where we were going and we weren't sure we were ever going to see my parents again.
Thankfully, I had my older brother with me, because seeing his determination helped me build my own.
My childhood shaped me into who I am.
I was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis B in 2014, when I was 47.
When I was diagnosed, I was jaundiced. I was rushed to the hospital.
They ran a series of blood tests and told me that I had chronic hepatitis B.
Before I was diagnosed, I didn't have any symptoms.
I hadn't been sick before; it was a total shock.
I was worried that I wouldn't be able to support my wife and my family.
I was afraid of missing out on the moments that matter.
I asked my doctor for his recommendation.
He told me it was really important for me to start treatment right away to lower my hep B virus level and improve my liver health.
I had trouble swallowing my first medication and I skipped it a lot.
I didn't take my hep B medication as much, so my hep B virus level went even higher than when I was originally diagnosed.
Having chronic hep B made me very tired and sometimes it was very hard for me to find the energy to work out.
My first hep B pill was not right for me.
I reached out to my doctor and he recommended VEMLIDY in 2017 and I switched.
I've been taking VEMLIDY daily ever since.
The VEMLIDY pill is small and easy to take.
It works well for me and it fits into my daily routine. I take it every day with food.
VEMLIDY has become a regular part of my daily life.
I'm grateful that my doctor was open to having a conversation about my medication.
I'm happy that my doctor recommended VEMLIDY for me.
My doctor and I discussed any other kinds of medication that I was taking that might interact with VEMLIDY that may cause side effects and affect how VEMLIDY works.

Co-pay Savings Program Benefits
Subject to the Gilead Support Path® Co-pay Savings Program (“Savings Program”) Terms and Conditions, this program provides the following financial assistance for the out-of-pocket costs for eligible commercially insured patients with a valid prescription:
Up to a maximum of $6,000 in cost-sharing assistance per calendar year with no monthly limit for the following product:
VEMLIDY® (tenofovir alafenamide 25 mg)
As described in the Savings Program Terms and Conditions, Gilead may reduce or discontinue the financial assistance available under the program if it determines the patient is subject to an “accumulator adjustment” or “co-pay maximizer” program.
If Gilead determines that a patient’s insurer (or its agent) has implemented a program that adjusts patient cost-sharing obligations based on the availability of support under the Savings Program (sometimes called a “co-pay maximizer program”), unless prohibited by law, Gilead may reduce or discontinue the cost-sharing assistance available under the program after providing assistance in an amount not to exceed the lesser of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) maximum limit or current Savings Program limit.
If Gilead determines that a patient’s insurer (or its agent) has implemented a program that excludes the financial assistance provided under the Savings Program from counting towards the patient’s deductible or out-of-pocket cost limitations (sometimes called an “accumulator adjustment program”), unless prohibited by law, Gilead may reduce the cost-sharing assistance available under the program to a per claim maximum of $25. Gilead Support Path® Co-pay Savings Program Terms and Conditions:
The Gilead Support Path Co-pay Savings Program (“Savings Program”) provides financial assistance for the out-of-pocket costs to eligible commercially insured patients as described in the Savings Program Benefits above. Savings Program benefits are limited to financial assistance for patient cost-sharing for the applicable Gilead product only.
The Savings Program can be used only by eligible residents of the US, Puerto Rico, or US territories at participating eligible pharmacies in the US, Puerto Rico, or US territories. Product must be dispensed in the US, Puerto Rico, or US territories. Patients must be at least 18 years old to use the Savings Program themselves or to enroll in the Savings Program on behalf of a minor.
To use the Savings Program, the patient (or the authorized representative under federal or state law enrolling on behalf of the patient, as applicable) must personally complete the enrollment process for the Savings Program. Third-party payers, pharmacy benefit managers, or the agents of either, are prohibited from assisting patients with enrolling in the Savings Program. Any decision to enroll in the Savings Program must be made voluntarily by the patient.
The Savings Program is not insurance and is not intended to substitute for insurance. Uninsured and cash-paying patients are not eligible to use the Savings Program. The Savings Program benefit is valid only for prescriptions that are reimbursed by commercial insurance and is not valid for prescriptions that are eligible to be reimbursed:
in whole or in part by Medicare or a Medicare Part D plan, Medicaid, TRICARE, VA, DOD, Puerto Rico Government Health Insurance Plan, or any other state or federally funded healthcare benefit program (collectively, “Government Programs”); or
by commercial plans or other health or pharmacy benefit programs that reimburse for the entire cost of prescription drugs or prohibit the program’s use.
Patients who begin receiving prescription benefits from Government Programs at any time must notify Gilead of this fact by contacting Support Path at 1-855-769-7284 and will no longer be eligible to use the Savings Program.
The Savings Program is limited to one per person and is not transferable. No substitutions are permitted. This Savings Program is offered to, and intended for the sole benefit of, eligible patients and may not be utilized for the benefit of third parties, including, without limitation, third-party payers, pharmacy benefit managers, or the agents of either. If Gilead determines that a patient’s insurer has implemented a program that adjusts patient cost-sharing obligations based on the availability of support under the Savings Program (sometimes called a “co-pay maximizer program”), unless prohibited by law, Gilead may reduce or discontinue the cost-sharing assistance available under the Savings Program after providing assistance in an amount not to exceed the lesser of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) out-of-pocket maximum or current Savings Program limit. The Savings Program is only available with a valid prescription. No other purchase is necessary to redeem this offer.
The Savings Program cannot be combined with any other coupon, free trial, discount, prescription savings card, or other offer (including, without limitation, any program offered by a third-party payer or pharmacy benefit manager, or an agent of either, that adjusts patient cost-sharing obligations). Patients are not eligible to use the Savings Program for a product if they are currently receiving free drug assistance through Gilead Sciences, Inc. (“Gilead”)’s patient assistance program for that product.
The Savings Program will not reimburse any payments made by Flexible Spending Account (FSA), Health Savings Account (HSA), Health Reimbursement Account (HRA), or any other payor, discount/co-pay program, or other offer.
Void where prohibited by law, taxed, or restricted.
Patient, pharmacist, and prescriber agree not to seek reimbursement for all, or any part of the benefit received by the patient through the Savings Program. Both patient and pharmacist are each individually responsible for reporting receipt of the saving benefit to any insurer, health plan, or other third party who pays for or reimburses any part of the prescription filled using the Savings Program, as may be required.
It is illegal to sell, purchase, trade, or counterfeit, or offer to sell, purchase, trade, or counterfeit the Savings Program.
Certain information pertaining to your use of the Savings Program will be shared with Gilead, the sponsor of the program, and its affiliates. The information disclosed will include the patient co-pay ID, pharmacy demographics, prescriber information, and details relating to the claim, such as co-pay amount, insurance details, and the therapy received.
