We took our 10 year old Chihuhua to Highfields as she was in need of some dental care. Booked in for teeth cleaning & abstraction if needed. They have an online pricing system so you have an indication of the possible cost involved.
Happy to report that the price was less than we expected it included medication plus a follow up appointment. We will definitely use this practice again when needed. Here at Highfields our Comprehensive Health Plan is a bit different. We believe in a plan that not only looks after the preventative care needs of your pet with vaccinations and parasite treatments, but also one that enables you to seek the reassurance of advice and assessment when your pet is unwell.
We want your pets to stay happy and healthy. With unlimited vet and nurse consults throughout the year (not including out of hours) if your pet is feeling under the weather, you can get complete peace-of-mind by getting them checked over whilst only needing to pay for medication/tests as necessary.
You will never have to pay a consultation fee again!

[H4] Lucy Travers BVSc CertAVP MRCVS
Lucy qualified from Liverpool University in 2006 and gained a Certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice in 2017. She has always worked with companion animals bar the odd alpaca and pet sheep! Having experience in many areas of small animal work she enjoys soft tissue surgeries such as abdominal surgery, BOAS procedures and anal sac removals. She is an OV (Official Veterinarian) and so can write animal health certificates for pet travel. She has a keen interest in breeding and maximising successful outcomes in pregnant dogs and cats. She has a young yellow Labrador called Ginny.

[H4] Anna-marie Knight BVetMed GPCert (Derm) MRCVS
Anna-marie qualified from the Royal Veterinary College in 2002. She has a special interest and advanced certificate in skin and ear disease (Dermatology). She is a very competent surgeon and also has a qualification in veterinary acupuncture. She also holds the OV qualification. She has two dogs, a Labrador called Betty, and a Border Terrier called Boo.

Catrina also graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2009. Over the last ten years she has specialised in Emergency and Critical Care medicine gaining a certificate whilst spending time working in Australia. She brings us a wealth of experience and knowledge in this area. She enjoys hiking with her two terriers Kora and Kia.

Cecile graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2014. Lucy and Cecile worked together when she was newly graduated.  She has a special interest in Orthopaedic surgery, and is currently doing a certificate in advance surgery. She has a lovely old crossbreed dog called Tilly.

Elizabeth graduated from Bristol Vet School in 2022 and has spent time working in both charity and private practice. She has an interest in feline medicine and also loves guinea pigs which she has two at home. In her spare time, she enjoys learning the piano and exploring the outdoors. She looks forward to meeting all your amazing pets at the practice!

Laura joins us after moving back home to Derbyshire after working in a practice on the South coast and in New Zealand. She qualified from Bristol in 2020. She has a keen interest in ultrasound scanning, reproduction medicine and surgery. She is about to start a certificate in advance surgery. She is a keen hiker and paddle boarder.
Most memorable case: urethrotomy (surgical incision into the urethra) to remove bladder stones.

Qualified from Bottle Green in 2021
Harriet lives with her dog Dougie. She likes all the stray white fluffy dogs and is currently trying to persuade her partner to adopt them all! She is a clinical coach helping Tia complete her training.
She has had great success with her weight clinics helping pets get into shape.
Harriet has a keen interest in anaesthesia and emergency and critical care medicine, performing blood transfusions, and suturing wounds.

Amiee loves all things feline and will say she is our cat whisperer nurse, she is the expert when it comes to getting blood samples off even the grumpiest of kitties! Outside of work Amiee is busy looking after her toddler. She has her own cat called Pippy (pictured here) and a new addition to her family; Nelly, a Whippet x Beddlington Terrier puppy
Favourite bit of equipment : Microscope for looking at urine, ear cytology or blood smears. Also the doppler blood pressure machine
Favourite procedure: Consults, particularly those for senior cats wellbeing, arthritis management and monitoring diabetes
Most memorable case: Cavalier King Charles Spaniel C-section and resuscitating her two puppies on a Saturday out of hours

Sue has been working as a nurse for many years. She is very experienced and enjoys all aspects of her role from consulting to anaesthetics to hospital care. She often has the task of monitoring anaesthetics of our tiniest patients, a role that can be very challenging.  She enjoys walking her dog Nixie and running.

Laura is an advocate for excellent patient care and particularly enjoys looking after our hospitalise patients. She also really enjoys anaesthetic monitoring for surgeries and procedures. In her spare time Laura enjoys going to concerts, camping, picnics and taking her cockapoo Daisy for walks.
Favourite bit of equipment : Dentals – Laura loves the satisfaction of cleaning and descaling dogs and cats teeth
Favourite procedure: Exploratory surgery as she finds it exciting to see what pets have eaten. Laura recalls the most unusual things she has seen recently; a potato, pants, a glove, and a dummy!

Rachel enjoys building up rapport with clients and forming bonds with her patients through providing continuity of care with consults. She lives with her 3-legged cat, who she re-homed as a kitten and got her name, Eileen due to the fact she leans! Rachel spends her free time gaming, crafts and painting.

Megan is now a qualified Veterinary nurse. She has always had an interest in animals, and we have known her since she was at school. She just kept coming back to Veterinary after spending time at university and dog grooming. She has a cheeky Cockerpoo at home called Loki.
Most memorable case:  Gingerbread 12 weeks old kitten with intussussception, which proved to be a challenging anaesthetic, with intensive nursing care on recovery.

We now are offering an in-house physiotherapy service run by Emma – Jayne who has a BSC hons in Veterinary physiotherapy.
In her words ‘Veterinary Physiotherapy aims to provide a treatment that is non-invasive supporting musculoskeletal, neurological conditions as well as post and pre-operative conditions using an individually developed treatment plan. It also provides support for senior pets that have begun to struggle with their daily routine. Veterinary Physiotherapy can provide support for every individual whether it is performance enhancement or maintenance care, we aim to provide each animal with a high-quality life.’

We will do all we can to ensure your pet is not scared when coming to the vets. We will provide longer appointments for pets that need a bit more time. Late admission appointments will reduce stress for nervous pets that need to stay with us for procedures.

We want to look after our environment for all the animals that inhabit it. We will recycle everything we can and use recycled/recyclable products wherever possible. Our new building has an advanced heat exchange system reducing environmental impact.

We are able to provide a first opinion surgery and although this means we can do most things, for more advanced procedures your pet may need to be referred for further treatment. We work with local specialists and will always use a service we can discuss cases easily with.

Here at Highfields, we believe in a transparent pricing policy. Unfortunately, there is no NHS for pets, so we are providing private health care. The fees reflect our professional time, medications, specialist equipment and training. We want to be able to provide the best possible care for your pets.
