Semantic Coherence: York Minster – Signal Evidence & AI Readability

Semantic Coherence — The Lens

Pull the main entities out of the H1, then check whether they actually recur through the body. A page that announces one thing and then talks about another drifts. Headings with no real sentences underneath read as pseudo-substance.

Semantic Coherence Homepage promise vs. Sub-page reality.
18 Impact Weight: 20 / 100
90% Reputation

There is virtually zero semantic drift between the homepage signal and sub-page substance. The homepage positions the Minster as a ‘sacred cathedral’ and ‘thriving church,’ and the sub-pages deliver exactly that through detailed worship schedules and ‘Ways to Worship’ sections. The transition from the ‘magnificent’ marketing tone of the hero section to the pragmatism of the ‘Plan Your Visit’ page—complete with bicycle parking distances (0.1 miles)—is logically consistent and professionally executed.

Semantic Coherence is read from the heading hierarchy first: what each page announces in its H1 and headings, then whether the body actually delivers on it. Below is the structure the engine mapped, followed by the clean text to check for drift between promise and reality.

🏗️ Semantic Structure — heading hierarchy & page identity (the promise the page makes)

[H2] Help us ensure the survival of this iconic building

Scroll to explore

[H3] York Minster is one of the world’s most magnificent cathedrals, but with the current building dating from the 13th century, it is a fragile masterpiece which needs constant care.
The cathedral receives no regular income from the Government, Church of England or Diocese of York towards its restoration and conservation. Including our ongoing restoration and conservation work, it costs £30,000 per day to run and maintain York Minster and our admission charge income covers less than 50% of this daily cost.
We’re therefore reliant on the generous support of our worshippers, visitors, partners and supporters to help us sustain this great cathedral and its work for generations to come. You can learn more about our current conservation projects but donations can also support the cathedral’s music and Christian mission.
Living Generously provides resources to help explore generosity within York Minster – praying that together, we continue to build a generous church. Click here to learn more about Living Generously.
In addition to The Chapter of York (the cathedral’s governing body), there are two registered charities which also raise money to support York Minster – the York Minster Fund (registered charity number 252157) and the Friends of York Minster (registered charity number 222871). Learn more below.

Governing body
[H3] Chapter of York

The Minster’s governing body is responsible for the delivery of our worship, mission, outreach and learning, as well as the cathedral’s properties and finances. You can support our work in Christian mission, music and fabric maintenance by donating below.

Leave a legacy –since the first cathedral was founded on this site in AD627, York Minster has relied on the generous gifts left by our forebears, from archbishops to kings, knights to noblemen, soldiers to choristers, and people from every walk of life. Still today, legacies form an important part of York Minster’s income. If you are interested in leaving a gift in your Will, please contact Andy Oates, Chapter Clerk, at chapterclerk@yorkminster.org.

Since 1967, the Fund has raised money for York Minster for many projects and in 2007 became its lead fundraising partner. The independent charity is regulated by the Fundraising Regulator and raises money to support ongoing conservation and restoration, as well as the cathedral’s work in music, learning and education.
