It's hard to choose an operator for THE TRIP of a lifetime but Quixote Expeditions was a no brainer ? Fede and Laura are seasoned explorers and the experiences they offer reflect that: adventures that are exciting, fun, and ready to take on the unexpected ⛴️ Truly different from other Antarctic trips out there... I went in Feb 2023 aboard the Hans Hansson and the crew had great camaraderie that made us passengers feel welcomed like family. Above all, I felt safe the whole way, accompanied by delicious food, helpful pre-trip briefings and great company. My only wish was that I booked sooner... but it was worth the wait ? If you have ever had even the mildest of curiosities about going to Antarctica DO IT! and do it with Quixote Expeditions. My wife and I have been to Antarctica 5 times between us and Quixote is without doubt the best way to do the trip.
Firstly, you get to save about 5-6 days avoiding the Drake Passage. That is time you can spend with the penguins or seals etc. If you want to box check the Drake, I think you can do the first or last trip of the season for the experience.
Secondly the small water craft and size of the groups means total flexibility which also means better access to some of the more spectacular spots. For example, we spent the night tied up next to a sunken freighter and did little day trips from there.
Another great advantage is that if you see a whale (or pod), you can simply stop in the water and see where it takes you. We had a 1.5hr encounter with a curious Southern Right whale that swam round us and we were able to simple stop the boat and enjoy the moment. Larger expeditions do not have that luxury or time available.
First night, we sat at the dinner table and Capt Dave asked us if we had any places, expectations or wish lists for our adventure. Apart from Deception Island (a must see) we were happy to lean on their experience.
One thing that they do remarkably well is protect the pristine environment they work in. My experience is that all the trips do this well but it was nice to see that Quixote love and respect their "office" the way they do.
Finally, I was in touch with Fernando prior to the trip and secretly arranged with him to get married. He suggested Paradise Bay and a nervous Captain Dave conducted the ceremony. PERFECT!!!

Happy to talk to anyone about my best trip to the Deep South. I sailed in the Ocean Tramp between 21 December 2022 and 13 January 2023. And what a wonderful experience it was! As an 84 year-old I had my reservations as to whether my plumbing and condition would stand the trip, not the yacht's of course! But the yacht is for its size very comfortable and you lack for nothing, if you are not a grand-luxe person. You should be fit and active, not a couch potato. We were 7 passengers and 4 crew and luckily we all got on really well together, and were superbly served by Captain Dave, Simon, Eze, Mak, and Janey our wonderful chef. The quality of the food was amazing (particularly when you see the size of the galley!). We were blessed with mostly good weather and were able to do many shore excursions. Antarctica fully lived up to my expectations as experienced in the Ocean Tramp -what variety and scale of scenery, the penguin rookeries, the seals and the whales. You have to be in a yacht gliding along really close to a pod of humpback whales as they swim, dive and breathe audibly, to be taken back to more primitive sailing times. We had many wonderful encounters with wildlife while sailing and while walking on land. In sum, sailing in the Ocean Tramp was a most memorable experience; definitely one of those trips of a lifetime. If you have a sense of adventure then do yourself a favour and join the Ocean Tramp! December 21, 2022 Joe and I embarked on an adventure on Antarctic Ocean where we were not only captivated by the magic of humpback whales dancing and serenading the Ocean Tramp, charmed by chinstrap penguin families, lulled to sleep in our wee bunks when anchored next to the abandoned whaling ship, shaded by tower icebergs, and toasted a Happy Christmas and New Year with new friends; we also eloped and were married by Capt. Dave sailing through the Lemaire Channel on the deck under perfect, blue skies. Not a dry eye as crew and our fellow shipmates toasted our love and commitment! Thank you to Dave, Jany, Simon, Mac, and Eze for going above and beyond for our special albeit impromptu day. To add to my pleasure, as a biologist my wedding day was gifted with the sighting of the R.R.S. David Attenborough, the premier British polar research ship (a.k.a. Boatie McBoatface). The brochure promised amazement which we were provided over and over. The wonder, laughter, safety, and joy of our time on the Ocean Tramp can not be captured adequately in words for it was fantastic, brilliant, wonderful; memories of which we will carry in our minds-eye and hearts for ever! The crew are premier - caring, helpful, kind, and committed to keep us safe and our few fellowship mates were fun, funny, and interesting. Thank you Fede, Lisa and all at Quixote Expeditions for such an organized, secure, compassionate, and fantastic voyage. Highly recommend as the best option to experience 'The Ice'! If you’re looking for a cosy place to spend your Antarctic adventure you can’t do better than the Hans Hansson. Great experience and service! Sailing to remote areas means that we are away from everything! That also means that if we need medical assistance it can be days away. It also means that we have no access to emails, phone, facebook, etc, for the duration of the trip.

This is a great trip for photographers, especially those looking to get the perfect shot. Our size offers us incredible flexibility. We can help you get some great shots and we can take advantage of the weather and the light!

Don’t worry – we have put together a list of exactly what you need to bring – check it out here.  If you have winter clothes, most of it you will already have.  A must have are some Arctic Muck boots – insulated rubber boots.  They are amazing.

YES! Please join us. Anyone with a sense of adventure and a desire to spend quality time in Antarctica will find our trips enjoyable. In fact, most of our guests are not sailors, but are out for a special adventure. Sailors and non-sailors alike both have incredible experiences.

Our cabins are some of the most comfortable available for sailboats and small motor yachts. We have private double cabins, and some with a private bathroom. Each cabin has a door that can be closed, they are fitted with warm and cozy duvets and storage space for your things. A luxury suite it is not, however each cabin gives you a place to call your own for the duration of the journey.

Everyone is a little different, but we highly recommend bringing seasickness pills with you. if you are on a Drake Passage trip – it is open water and the vessel will move. For those flying across the Drake, there may at timesm still be some movement, so we do reccomend brining some medication. We recommend having a chat with your doctor and bringing seasickness pills with you.

When we are in Antarctica Ocean Tramp will act like a base camp. Some days we will travel other days we will stay put. Once we are anchored we will launch the zodiac to explore. Sometimes we will cruise around the in the zodiac exploring the area, other times we will use the zodiac to bring us to shore. Sometime on shore we will be able to freely move around, explore and hike, other times we may be limited due to the wildlife and limiting our impact on them. We also bring kayaks and can use them to explore at eye level.
