Learn to surf in Portrush on the best waves in the country with Alive Adventures, the longest-running surf school in Portrush, in fact, the longest-running surf school in Northern Ireland!
We have lots of options for surfing lessons. You can join a group surf lesson by yourself or with friends where you will learn to surf with other excited people who can’t wait to get in the sea! If you would rather learn to surf with just your group then go for the private surfing lesson and if you are looking to improve as an individual select private 1-2-1.

Deluxe surfing is for those looking for that VIP surfing experience! You will meet in our purpose-built surf centre for a tea/coffee pre-surf and get to use our hot showers and changing rooms afterwards before having a cold beer/prosecco or soft drink!

We believe that having the proper equipment is crucial to everyone’s surfing development. The biggest mistake beginner surfers make is learning to surf on boards designed for an advanced surfer – this only leads to frustration and disappointment. You don’t get handed a Formula 1 car on the day you pass your driving test!
Let’s be honest, the main reason we are all out in the water is to have as much fun as possible and have the best chance of surfing a wave to the shore. We carefully buy only the best equipment designed to make surfing as easy and as fun as possible.
Our surfboards, whether you are renting surfing equipment or going for a surfing lesson are large and buoyant, this means they are as stable as possible when catching waves – don’t get too cocky though as having wipe-outs are a guarantee!
We also fit every student with an all-year-round winter wetsuit to ensure they can thoroughly enjoy their lesson whilst being warm and comfortable.

[H1] Equipment Hire.

Rent equipment for 2 hours, all day or for several days. Although all our surf lessons are inclusive of equipment, you may wish to practice your newfound surfing skills on your own.
If this is the case, then we also offer a hire service of
Surfboards,
Paddleboards,
Bodyboards,
and Wetsuits, as well as boots and gloves.

We hold a huge range of surfboards in a variety of sizes from 7 foot to 9 foot.
Our fleet of paddleboards consists of soft tops and inflatables that are ideal for checking out the West Bay. Our wetsuits are top of the range winter suits and we also stock boots, gloves and hoods during the colder winter months. All hire customers are able to use our changing rooms and hot showers, as well as keep your belongings in our van.

[H2] Equipment hire with Alive Adventures.
When you are renting surf equipment from us, we will make sure you will have a great time and that you stay safe. Our staff will help you to find a safe place on the beach. During the lifeguarded season, June to September, it is good to know the meaning of the flags before you head down to the beach. Please understand that SUP rentals are weather dependent and are therefore only made available when we are confident the condition will be suitable. We always announce SUP rentals via our Facebook page. IMPORTANT! Please bring a form of ID (license, passport etc…) to confirm your rental.

Learning to surf in Portrush is such a cool thing to do in the summer holidays. Kids camps run from Mon-Thurs each week of the holidays, kids get a 2-hour surfing lesson each day all equipment included.
Kids can start surfing from 5 years upwards, we ask a parent to be available (we will provide a wetsuit for free) for any children who are 8 years old or younger
Location – West Bay Beach, Portrush.
Duration – 4 days 2hrs each day – please arrive 30 minutes before your lesson starts.

[H3] Lesson layout
Once you arrive someone from our wonderful team will give you a warm welcome to Alive Adventures and check you into our booking system.
You will then be fitted into one of our toasty winter wetsuits and given an Alive Adventure vest to wear on top (FYI – the zip goes at the back).
Once the lesson starts our lead instructor will give you a friendly introduction to the team taking you out and delivering a private safety talk as well as an assessment of the surfing conditions.
Our team will then invite you to a short but lively warm-up on Portrush’s stunning West Bay Beach.
Once you’re warmed up and received your board our lead instructor will provide an expertly tailored and broken-down tuition onboard handling, finding your sweet spot, prone riding and so much more.
You will then continue the majority of your lesson in the ocean putting words into action with continual tuition from our team.
We promise you’ll have a brilliant laugh and lots of memories! But be warned, surfing is extremely addictive! Parents and guardians watch out! Your child may be asking Santa for a new surfboard next Christmas.
