Identity & Authority — The Lens

Inspect the JSON-LD. Is there an Organization or Person schema, and does it carry sameAs links to real external profiles (LinkedIn, socials)? Missing schema or no identity declaration signals an anonymous entity.

Identity & Authority Expert verifiability & Schema depth.

Authority gaps are minimal despite the inherent anonymity of the Inspectors. The site compensates by providing detailed Person schema for its editorial team and technical credibility through robust JSON-LD structured data on article pages. There is a clear connection between the brand’s heritage claims and the technical execution of its digital presence.

There is no significant disconnect between marketing claims and demonstrated results. Claims of being ‘always on the road’ are supported by frequent, dated updates such as the May 2026 Latest Additions list. Performance claims regarding ‘the best’ are framed as qualitative expert selections rather than unsubstantiated quantitative marketing boasts.

Identity & Authority is read from the structured data first: whether the site declares who it is in machine-readable schema, with verifiable identity links. Below is the schema captured per page, then the external proof links that support (or fail to support) that identity.

    "articleBody": "
The Bib Gourmand award is our way of recognising restaurants that offer good food at a great price. While all Bib Gourmands are unique in style and approach, they share the same spirit of generosity and a commitment to quality cooking. That’s why, in this series, we’re highlighting the MICHELIN Guide Inspectors' Bib of the Month. These restaurants are the bedrock of our selection, providing an affordable dining option that doesn’t skimp on precision, skill or flavour. From cosy pubs to buzzing counters, we’ve got a Bib for you.

\n
Our Bib of the Month for June is Alba in St Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey. One of several restaurants making a splash on the second-largest Channel Island, it’s an instantly loveable place with flavour-packed food. Here’s what a MICHELIN Guide Inspector thinks:

“Alba feels like one of the go-to spots in Guernsey right now. The island’s dining scene is going from strength to strength and this is one of its biggest assets. Fun, friendly and brilliantly priced, it has all the makings of a restaurant you could visit again and again. Owner David Matheson is an experienced operator and Chef Billy Etheridge is showing that he has talent in abundance, whether it’s in precisely cooked seafood or simply delicious snacks like the courgette tempura with tzatziki. Together, Matheson and Etheridge have cooked up a delight of a restaurant.”

The kind of dish that caught our Inspector's eye at Alba. © Alba \n
To learn more about Alba’s ethos, we spoke to its owner, David Matheson, about what makes his restaurant tick.

How would you describe Alba to someone who has never been before?

Alba is situated in the stunning original market square building in the centre of St Peter Port. The space has been underutilised in recent years and Alba has really added some energy back in to the space, whilst being sympathetic to the original architecture.

We are very diverse in our offering. From the Mexican/Cuban-inspired cocktail bar to the loosely Southern Mediterranean cuisine to our extensive wine list, there really is something for everyone. You will find all of this complemented by a knowledgeable, skilled but relaxed team.

One of Chef Billy Etheridge's dishes rooted in Guernsey produce. © Alba \n
What is your approach to the food and drawing from multiple cuisines?

The original and continuing focus of the menu from the very beginning was on finding the very best version of the central ingredient. Whether this is our incredible olive oil from Provence, a beautiful cut of Iberico pork, cooked simply over charcoal, or the Amarena Italian cherry showcased in our Amarena chocolate and cherry choux bun dessert.

Every other ingredient must complement and enhance this central ingredient, letting it shine. A great example of this is the current Sark asparagus, perfectly in season, lightly grilled and served with a drizzle of the Provence olive oil and a seasoning of 30-month-aged parmesan.

Over the last 30 years there has been extensive research all over Europe and relationships have been built with incredible producers from France, Spain and Italy. A lot of these cuisines and influences work together naturally to give us our unique identity. Having said that, there really are no rules, which keeps things exciting.

A verdant gnocchi dish from the Alba kitchen. © Alba \n
What price range can customers expect and how are you able to keep your prices affordable?

Our price range is really dependent on personal choice and appetite. We have a lunchtime ‘Italian Kitchen’ menu with all pasta dishes at £12.95. Most of the sharing dishes range from £12-20 each. Two of these and a side dish would send you away more than happy. As with all restaurants at the moment, costs are high; we buy most of our vegetables and seafood locally with a percentage of our beef coming from our famous dairy cows. This all helps to keep costs reasonable alongside the genuinely skilled work of our executive chef Billy and his team.

The bright, flavour-packed and affordably priced cooking from Alba. © Molly Phillips/Alba \n
What is the dish to order at Alba?

For me, to really experience the best of Alba, come with friends to order a selection of dishes to share. The Dover sole is a must. It is what we do best: take a beautiful local product, cook it simply and perfectly, and enhance it with Billy’s excellent sauce using gewürztraminer wine. For a sunny summer lunch, sit outside in the market square and order a bowl of pasta from our ‘Italian Kitchen’ menu, a glass of wine and relax into the surroundings. For Billy, it would be our tuna tartare with ponzu, English wasabi and sesame.

How do you feel about being a prominent member of the Guernsey restaurant scene?

The Guernsey scene has always been vibrant for a small island, never more so than at the moment which is even more impressive given the challenging times. There have been numerous new openings, all of great quality, including our first MICHELIN-Star restaurant in over a decade, Vraic. We were humbled and shocked to receive our Bib Gourmand this year. To stand out amongst such a great selection of local restaurants was a real honour. All of this has led to a noticeable increase in food tourism to the island, which is great for everyone.

A particularly attractively presented dish from one of Guernsey's best restaurants. © Alba \n
Tell us about your interesting wine selection.

The wine list is an ongoing labour of love and a real passion. With a diverse sharing-plates menu, the challenge is to create a wide and varied selection by the glass and bottle that can enhance a meal which can involve a myriad of different flavours and styles. We are constantly sourcing new and different wines from all over the world, working with small and large producers. With over 30 wines available by the glass and hundreds by the bottle, there really is a style and price point to suit everyone and every dish.

Guernsey really is a thriving island – from its French-influenced culture to its beautiful coastline – and is only an hour from London and France. For visitors, the food scene is a real attraction and we believe Alba has really added to this. From our attractive al fresco area to the historic interior, we appeal to all areas of the corporate world, visiting travellers and locals alike. Whether it’s a light dish and a glass or a full celebration in our private dining room, relax and enjoy everything that is Alba.

\n

\n
\n Discover more Bib of the Month restaurants:
EDŌ, Belfast
\n
\n
\n The Yurt at Nicholsons, North Aston
BIGFAN, Dublin
Daróg, Galway
Ardfern, Leith
\n
\n

\n
Hero Image: The dining room at Alba in St Peter Port, Guernsey, recipient of a Bib Gourmand for its affordable, high-quality cooking. © Alba

",
