At Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors, we understand the importance of saying goodbye to your loved ones with dignity, respect, and personalised care. As a truly independent funeral directors, privately owned and serving all faiths and backgrounds, we are committed to providing a service that honours the unique lives of those we serve.
Established in 1999 by Jonathan Terry, who has been dedicated to the funeral profession since 1985, our company has built a solid reputation for delivering personal and excellent service to families throughout Southampton and beyond.
Over the years, we have continuously reinvested in our business to ensure that we offer the best possible support to our families. In 2008, in response to the growing demand from families on the eastern side of Southampton, we opened our London Road office.
In 2013, we embarked on a journey of redesign and refurbishment of our Peartree Avenue premises, culminating in the completion of the project in 2014.
A significant milestone in our journey came in December 2018 when we acquired 103 Peartree Avenue and launched the White Lily Centre, a bereavement centre offering counselling services to all. The White Lily Centre stands as a symbol of our commitment to supporting families beyond the funeral itself.
In May 2022, we enhanced our services further with the introduction of a new fleet of Mercedes hearses and limousines, ensuring that every aspect of your loved one's final journey is conducted with the utmost care and professionalism.

We here are Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors welcome you to search the market of Funeral Directors when making your decision to find the right Funeral director who will be handling the funeral arrangements of your loved one.
When considering funeral directors, it is possible to be misled into believing that all companies provide the same quality of products and level of service and that price should be the only determining factor in your decision. This is not the case and funeral companies will differ greatly in the quality of their products and the standard of their professional services which should be reflected in their price.
To ensure you choose a funeral company that will provide you with peace of mind on the quality of  the products and services you require you must not only be fixated on the headline price but consider those other factors that assures you get what you want, such as the reputation of the funeral directors, their standard of available facilities, funeral vehicles and experienced staff who are there to support you in your time of need.
Our quoted prices reflect the quality of our products and services we provide, which we are proud of delivering a higher standard as compared to other funeral directors.  As an independent family-owned business, we understand families and are compassionate to the needs of you to deliver a funeral service to which your loved one would be pleased.  As such we offer flexibility to be able to tailor our pricing very much to the individual requirements of a family or to reflect the instructions or wishes left by the person who has died.

Being upkeeping members of the Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) our facilities and service are monitored by this regulated body who directs the funeral market to ensure the highest level of service are being made available to families in their time of need.
We invite you to arrange a meeting with us at our offices where you are free review and consider our facilities and products in-addition, meeting the team free of any obligation to engage our funeral directors service. If  at that time we have met your expectations and are comfortable we are your chosen funeral directors,
we will be pleased to start a discussion, so we are aware of your needs and present to you an estimate of the costs of a funeral services before a commitment has been made to entrust us with funeral arrangements.

Jonathan Independent Funeral Directors offer a variety of funeral options so that you can clearly choose the funeral that is befitting to you and your loved one. We pride ourselves on caring for you and your family as if you were our own family. We see it as a privilege to take care of you.

We provide two options Unattended Cremation And Attended Direct Cremation at Wessex Vale Crematorium

Families may choose this form of arrangement because it takes away the stress of arranging a funeral
The person who has died requested to have little or no fuss made for their funeral
The availability of funds may not always be at hand
Personal circumstance and beliefs

Collection from an address or hospital within Hampshire - 24 hour service
24 hour advice on registration and procedures
Care of the deceased
A meeting during office hours to sign and arrange all necessary paperwork. This may also be arranged by telephone and email
A cardboard coffin
A hearse to transport the deceased to the place of cremation
Cremation day and time chosen by Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors
We will always inform you of the day of the cremation, however, in line with the crematoria instructions, there will be no formal funeral service.
We will collect your loved one’s ashes from the crematorium and return them to our office where they may be collected by the applicant or a family member. We offer a choice of caskets or urns. The ashes may also be scattered at the crematorium garden of rest

[H2] The Low Cost Cremation or Burial Service
Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors will always provide the highest quality service during your time of need.
The Low-Cost Cremation or Burial Service is an option for families who may choose it for financial reasons or may prefer a simple funeral service.

[H3] What is included:
Funeral directors professional service charge
To remove your loved one into our care from home or hospital within Hampshire within office hours Monday - Friday 8.30 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
A basic coffin and dressing of the deceased
Visitation at our chapel of rest within office hours
Monday - Friday 9.00 a.m. - 5.00 p.m.
A hearse to convey your loved one from our chapel of rest direct to the crematorium or cemetery. You may also leave from a local address and follow the hearse in your own car
24-hour advice and support
If required, the ashes returned to you in the container provided by the crematorium
[H3] The Funeral Time
A 20 minute service to be held at Southampton, Wessex Vale or
Test Valley Crematorium
Southampton Crematorium times:
East Chapel 9.00 a.m., 9.30 a.m. or 4.00 p.m.
Wessex Vale or Test Valley Crematorium times:
9.00 a.m. or 9.30 a.m.
The burial service may take place at any cemetery/churchyard within a 30 mile radius of our offices. The service will need to take place before 10.30 a.m.

Burial fees will be advised when the cemetery or churchyard is known – memorial fees will also apply if a memorial needs to be removed for burial.

Please note that we require all disbursement fees, additional costs and newspaper notices to be paid in full before the funeral service takes place.

Access to our bereavement services include one-to-one counselling, support groups and community events. A service we offer to all our families.

A funeral plan is an easy way to arrange the funeral you want in advance. A plan allows you to specify your wishes and pay for the funeral director’s services included in your plan. As customers often tell us, that can bring peace of mind to you and your family. A plan from Golden Charter also includes an allowance towards third party costs. These are essential, non-funeral director services such as the cremation or burial fees, plus the minister or officiant’s fee to perform the service.
At Jonathan Terry Independent Funeral Directors, we work in partnership with Golden Charter to provide you with a simple way to plan ahead. As one of the UK’s largest funeral plan providers1, Golden Charter has helped nearly 1 million people to plan ahead2, so we’re completely confident in offering their plans to you.
Everyone has different needs when it comes to funeral planning, so we make sure the plans we offer are as flexible as possible. When you get in touch, we’ll be happy to discuss your funeral requirements and tailor a plan to suit you. Rest assured a plan from Golden Charter is available to all UK residents regardless of age or state of health.

As an independently owned funeral director, we’ll take the time to understand your wishes and tailor a plan to suit you. We can discuss these at our premises or in your home, at a time that is convenient for you. If you’d prefer to discuss this over the phone or via email, we can assist with this too. You can tell us about any preferences you have in mind – the type of funeral you would like to have, hymns, music or any other personal touches – and we’ll make sure your plan takes these into account.
[H2] What’s included in a pre-paid funeral plan?
Our funeral director’s services will be covered in your funeral plan, which means our fees will be fixed at today’s prices and protected against rising costs. These services typically include:
Professional services and making arrangements for the funeral
Transportation of the deceased from the place of death to our premises, chapel of rest or other suitable location
Care of the deceased and preparations for family viewing if requested
Advice on the certification and registration of death and related documentation
Provision of funeral vehicles
Advice on bereavement counselling
Coffin or casket requested
Although a pre-paid funeral plan can cover all of the services above, there are some additional third party costs to consider. These are the costs for essential, non-funeral director services required to carry out a cremation or burial which need to be paid at the time of the funeral. These costs are outside our control. Depending on the plan type chosen, a Golden Charter funeral plan can include a contribution towards some third party costs. They may include:
Crematorium fee
Minister or officiant’s fee
Cemetery fee: the opening of a new or existing grave for burial or interment of cremated remains
Other third party costs that may be associated with a funeral include:
Purchase of grave or lair
Hire of church or other venue
Fees for organist or soloist
Memorial, such as a headstone, entry in a book of remembrance, or the planting of a tree
Catering, floral tributes and newspaper announcements
There will only be more to pay at the time of the funeral if the third party costs exceed the allowance when you buy your plan, or if the costs increase by more than the growth of your plan.
However, even if prices rise in the future, you’ll have the reassurance of knowing there’ll be nothing more to pay for our funeral director’s services included in the plan once your plan is fully paid for – guaranteed.

[H2] Payment options to suit you
With a Golden Charter funeral plan, you can pay for your plan in several ways. Spread the cost or make a one-off payment – simply choose the one that’s right for you. We will provide you with the information you need to make an informed decision.
The retail price of your funeral plan is representative of the equivalent cost of a funeral today plus an arrangement fee of £325 which is retained by Golden Charter to help cover the costs of setting up your plan.
Your payments are held within the Golden Charter Trust. With almost £1.21 billion under management3, the Trust is operated by a Board of Trustees, completely independent of Golden Charter. Their role is to hold your payments and ensure that the funeral director services in your plan can be paid for at the time they are required – however far into the future that may be. [H2] Looking after you as a customer
As a Golden Charter plan holder, you’ll receive personalised plan documents, which include a summary of your plan, our details, your plan holder certificate and a personal membership card for you to carry in your purse or wallet. You can add a nominated representative to your plan if you wish to do so. Your nominated representative will receive a letter which will provide details of your plan and our details, as your chosen funeral director. They will have no authority to make changes to your plan.
You’ll also receive a statement from Golden Charter every three years which will be sent via post.
As your funeral director, we’ll hold full details of your funeral plan. When the time comes, one phone call is all it takes to activate your plan and get the arrangements underway.
