Year 10 pupils completed a Water Walk to support Hope365 ahead of this summer’s trip to Shashemene, Ethiopia ??Carrying heavy jerry cans, pupils experienced just a small glimpse of the daily reality faced by many young people and families who walk long distances to access clean water each day.This summer, a team of Year 13 and 14 pupils and staff will travel to Ethiopia with Hope365 to support the charity’s ongoing work in the local community.Thank you to everyone who has already donated in support of the trip and the charity’s work. Ballyclare High School pupils Isabella, Reuben, Thomas and Naomi, alongside Rosie from Ballyclare Secondary School, have been taking part in the Bassoon and Beyond project ?Delivered in partnership between the Ulster Orchestra and EA Music, the initiative aims to promote and inspire interest in endangered instruments.At the weekend, the pupils enjoyed the exciting opportunity to attend an open rehearsal ahead of the Ulster Orchestra’s Symphonic Queen concert at the Waterfront Hall. Our mission is to develop life-long learners in a caring, creative community, embracing new ideas and technologies.
Ballyclare High School fosters strong relationships between teachers, pupils, parents, and the wider community, including business and industry. We set high standards for behaviour, presentation, and academic effort, encouraging excellence while supporting individual learning needs. Through positive discipline, we promote self-respect, mutual respect, and tolerance of diversity, boosting pupils' confidence and self-esteem.
We motivate pupils to show initiative, set ambitious goals, and pursue personal growth. Our pastoral care system, including form tutors, heads of year, and the sixth form’s ‘Buddy’ system, offers valuable support, especially for transferring pupils.
With a global perspective, the school maintains long-standing links with international schools and has earned the International School Award twice. Our diverse extra-curricular programme encourages enterprise, with high participation levels helping pupils develop teamwork and leadership skills.
A progressive grammar school, Ballyclare High has invested in resources and training to enhance learning through technology. Our ICT facilities are outstanding, including a modern Learning Centre with 60 workstations, interactive whiteboards, and 400 managed service machines. The school was formally an ICT Specialist School, driving rapid advancements in ICT use and sharing best practices with other schools.

Marked Assessment Tasks (MATs) are an essential part of Ballyclare High School's academic process. These assessments, which occur four times each year for every pupil in each subject, are designed to provide teachers with insights into pupil attainment, ensuring that pupils are on track to meet their target grades.
They also give tutors a snapshot of performance across all subjects during "Tracking Tuesdays" and provide parents with an opportunity to discuss their child's academic progress. MATs are not formal exams; instead, they help reinforce key knowledge and exam techniques through tests like end-of-topic quizzes or past paper questions.
By analysing MAT results, the school can identify areas where additional support or intervention may be needed. This approach fosters continuous learning and provides pupils with clear feedback, helping to guide their academic journey while encouraging further effort and commitment.
