Information Density — The Lens

Classify each sentence as substantive or hollow. Grounding markers — numbers, currencies, dates, technical units, named entities — outweigh marketing adjectives. When fluff sits right next to hard evidence, the fluff is forgiven.

Info Density Power-words vs. Substance ratio.
16 Impact Weight: 30 / 100
53% Reputation

The site exhibits a moderate imbalance between marketing fluff and substance. Headings like H2 Curiosity can take you anywhere and H2 No two journeys are the same are high-fluff power word constructions. However, these are counterbalanced by specific body text substance such as the 9:1 student-faculty ratio and the mention of 3,000+ internship opportunities. The specificity of the news section, mentioning specific alumni like Claire Pollard ’22 and her career path, provides a higher noun-to-adjective ratio than many competitors.

Information Density is read straight from the body copy: how much of the text carries grounded, checkable substance versus hollow filler. Below is the clean text the engine analyzed, then the industry’s known generic-claim patterns to weigh it against.

[H2] Why visit Grinnell?

Lily Shoemaker '28 (Montezuma, Iowa)

"I came to campus for the first time over the summer before my senior year of high school. I was scared, but I was so grateful to meet so many amazing students. I had conversations with these students that really showed me that Grinnell would be an amazing fit. "

Lily Freeman '27 (Bainbridge Island, Washington)

"My campus visit was really special. I was paired with a frisbee player (my club of interest), and we even spontaneously met her captain. My class visit also stood out, as the professor called on me for one question! Grinnell challenged and welcomed me from the moment I got here."

[IMG: A man smiles for a headshot]

Alex Stein '25 (Mansfield, Pennsylvania)

"After visiting Grinnell, the people, facilities, and location made me so excited about the possibility of spending four years here. People in Grinnell were really kind, inviting, and interested in me."

[IMG: A woman smiles for a headshot]

Hannah Sweet '25 (Minneapolis, Minnesota)

"I wanted to attend a small liberal arts college that would support me as both a student and athlete. After visiting campus, I knew that Grinnell was the right place for me."

[IMG: Haden Horstman smiles for a photo on a river overlook]

Haden Horstman '26 (Des Moines, Iowa)

"I ultimately chose Grinnell because when I visited, it felt like home. I could see myself walking the paths between all the dorms, going to class on a Tuesday."

Quinby Rainey '27 (Hammon, Oklahoma)

"I remember being extremely nervous about my first visit to campus. I had already been admitted in Early Decision, so the stakes were already extra high in my mind. But once I made it to the College, I was overcome with a sense of giddiness. My visit to Grinnell made starting this new chapter of my life not seem so scary."
