Welcome to Nettlebed Community School.
It is my pleasure to be the Head teacher of such a wonderful and exciting school where every day is a new adventure in learning. We are fortunate to have a beautiful school in stunning surroundings with amazing staff who nurture and enrich children’s education.
Working as a community, we aim to make all children confident and independent equipped with the necessary skills to take them further in their lives.

[H1] Nettlebed Community Centre - Facilities for Hire
The school has two halls, a kitchen and an all-weather pitch available to hire for wider community use.
Our Community Centre facilities are managed by a Joint Use Committee with representatives from the School, Parish Council and FONS (Friends of Nettlebed School).
The aim of the committee is to ensure full and appropriate use of the community facilities outside school hours, and during the school day by arrangement with the Headteacher.

[H2] Before and after school clubs
[H6] After School and Lunchtime Clubs
A wide variety of After School clubs run each day from 3.30pm until 5.30pm Mon - Thurs and until 4.30pm on Fridays.  All clubs are booked for termly periods and a few clubs are available on a daily ad-hoc basis.  All of our clubs are very popular and on average have 60 places booked each day.
Reserved spaces are available for children who are eligible for free school meals/pupil premium and these are organised through the school office.
Recent clubs include: Football, Drama, Sewing, Art, Lego, Science, Gymnastics, Tag-Rugby, Netball, Football, Judo and Pottery. Lunch time clubs include Bridge, Cheerleading/Dance and Spanish.

[H6] Breakfast Club
We offer a Breakfast Club every morning from 7.45am.  The children have a choice of food and the school is a registered food retailer. After breakfast, the children are welcome to play quiet games together and then have some fresh air in the playground before the school bell sounds and they start their lessons.
[H6] Payment with Childcare Vouchers
We can accept Childcare Vouchers for breakfast and after school clubs.  Please note that any activities that fall within normal academic provision such as trips, residential stays, school meals and sporting events cannot be paid for with vouchers.
Your employer(s) may have an affiliation with a particular provider of childcare vouchers.  You 'buy' the vouchers, usually through salary sacrifice, and you save as you do not pay tax or NI on this.
The school is already registered to accept vouchers from a number of providers.  If you are interested in starting to pay for clubs with vouchers, please speak to the office.

[H1] Friends of Nettlebed School (FONS)
[H2] Welcome to the Friends of Nettlebed School (charity no. 1091177)
FONS is responsible for organising a range of fun fundraising and social events throughout the school year.  We are committed to being an inclusive body that delivers our vision:
“to work together to promote a strong sense of school community while simultaneously raising funds which will be used to enhance every child’s experience at Nettlebed School”.
Although all parents are part of FONS, it is run by a small, committed group of parent volunteers who always welcome the support and involvement of others to deliver our goals.  We work hard to bring together the school, families and staff to promote a real sense of school community, fun and achievement.
The money raised by FONS contributes to enriching the school curriculum with Forest School and specialist music lessons as well as providing transport to local sports matches. FONS also raise money for specific projects and have previously contributed heavily to installing the all-weather pitch, interactive white boards and recently raised over £20,000 for a playground overhaul!
Recent events we have held include Halloween discos, quiz nights, colour runs, Easter scarecrow trails, a Christmas present room, the Stinger run, the Winter Fete and the Summer Fete. We are now developing plans for a summer festival! FONS takes pride in our school and so each term we also arrange a community day during which families come together to paint, fix and clear up in a fun and cost-effective way.

Local charities to support school costs
There are several local charities who are set up to assist with the cost of school whether this be trips, clubs or uniform. Many will also fund activities outside of school too.
They all ask for applications in advance and further information is available on their websites or from the named contact.

The Nettlebed Education Trust
Who can apply?
- Children/Students under the age of 25 that are either resident in the Parish of Nettlebed or attending or have attended Nettlebed School.
- You must be in real need of financial assistance (detailed criteria is available with the application).  The household the child/student lives in must have a joint income of less than £35,000.
What can I apply for? Funding for educational or vocational purposes including training in sports, arts or languages and field trips.  More details are available on application.
When can I apply?
Applications will be considered 3 times a year in September, January and April. The funding should be used within the 3-4 months immediately following the application. Precise dates will be advertised by Nettlebed School and on the community Facebook page.

Nuffield County Primary School Trust
Who can apply?
Children / Students must be older than 5 and younger than 26 at application deadline. They must also be resident in Nuffield Parish for the duration of the claim period (i.e from the current deadline to the next deadline for applications).
What can I apply for?
Funding for educational or vocational purposes including training in sports, arts or languages and field trips.  More details are available on application.
When can I apply?
Applications will be considered 3 times a year in September, January and April. The funding should be used within the 3-4 months immediately following the application.

The Henley Educational Trust
Who can apply?
Children / Students under 25 who live in Henley North, Henley South, Bix, Rotherfield Greys, Assendon and Remenham.
FSM families who live in this area have seperate application forms and are elligible for more support.

Funding for educational or vocational purposes including training in sports, arts or languages, music, uniform and residentials.  More details are available on application.
When can I apply?
All year round ahead of the activity or item.

Highmoor Educational Trust

What can I apply for?
In the past, the charity has provided grants for school trips, extracurricular activities, course materials for university students, contributions to education costs.

[H2]           Climate Action

At Nettlebed, we aim to prepare our children for their futures by helping them understand their role in caring for the world around them. We strive to develop confident, independent thinkers who recognise that their actions matter and who approach environmental challenges with a positive, ‘can do’ attitude.

In order to make this a reality, climate action is embedded across our curriculum and wider school life. Pupils are actively involved through our Eco Council, who so far this term have... litter picked, made bug hotels, recruited light monitors and timer chargers for school devices. Forest School, where the children experience and learn in and about their local environment. we also provide an opportunity for a small number of children to experience therapeutic and mindful gardening sessions, the children learn about growing seasonal plants and produce, to diversify our school environment.
We work closely with 'Eco-Schools' and 'Count Your Carbon' to reflect and improve our environmental impact. We use these to create our climate action plan that we update each term with relevant goals and challenges.
