It takes a lot to be honest. We make our burgers from scratch in our own butchery. It’s not the easiest way but it means we can serve our burgers pink, so they eat more like a steak. We buy the best British potatoes for our chips from local farmers then double-cooked and rosemary salted. Always fresh, never frozen.
Whether it’s made in our prep kitchen, from a farm or local supplier we don’t cut corners and never compromise on the quality of ingredients.

We couldn’t be prouder of our win – it’s the first time we’ve entered the National Burger Awards and it’s also our 15-year anniversary, so 2026 really is a year to celebrate here at Honest Burgers. You can get the burger for a limited time only for £15 with homemade chips to celebrate our birthday and win.
The Honest was created by our co-founder Tom Barton – it’s a twist on the original recipe that we opened our doors with back in 2011, so it was a proud moment for Tom to cook it at the awards and scoop the trophy. Tom’s winning recipe is dry-aged British beef, thick-cut Wiltshire bacon, homemade beef and onion relish, XL burger cheese, pickles, and white onion.

[H2] The Best Burger in the UK
The National Burger Awards brings together restaurants, pubs and street food vendors from across the country each year to cook their signature burgers live in front of a panel of judges. Sixteen finalists compete, with the winner crowned the best burger in the UK.
In 2026, that winner was us.
Competing against 15 other finalists, The Honest beat the competition, with Burger & Beyond in second place and Newcastle’s Meat Stack in third.
The win comes in the same year as our 15th anniversary, which makes it mean a little bit more. Honest Burgers started in a small restaurant in Brixton in 2011. Since the beginning, our goal has been to make great British burgers properly. Fifteen years and 46 restaurants later, the judges at the National Burger Awards agree we’re doing something right. This award feels like a homage to our OG Honest burger and all our customers who’ve been with us for 15 years.
[H2] What Makes The Honest the UK’s Best Burger?
[H3] The Ingredients Behind the Win
The Honest is a smashed take on our signature classic. Here’s what goes into it:
Dry-aged beef
Thick-cut Wiltshire bacon
Homemade beef and onion relish
XL cheese
Pickles
White onion
Every element is there for a reason. We’re using sirloin flank and ageing it for four weeks to get the perfect level of beefy funk.
Then we’ve got British thick-cut dry-cured bacon, which is our best bacon yet. The beef and onion relish packs a real punch. It’s made with dry-aged beef that’s rendered down and cooked off with onions to bring even more beefiness. It’s heavily inspired by our OG Honest with a combination of salty bacon, sweet relish, and sour pickles.

[H2] The Smash Burger Technique
Our customers can enjoy our original pink and juicy burgers, or go for a crisp smashed burger. A smashed burger means the patty is pressed hard onto a hot grill to create a thin, crispy-edged burger with maximum surface contact. The result is more crust, more flavour, and a different texture to a traditional burger. The Honest is made with two smashed patties.
