When called upon to arrange a funeral, we take complete responsibility for all the details involved, removing the worry and burden at this difficult time. It is for this reason our service and premises have been carefully planned to produce a combination of efficiency, immediate help and personal attention.
We are available to give personal service at any time of the day or night, at weekends and Bank Holidays. Once we have been notified of a death, everything can be left safely in our care, with the exception of registration.

About our pre-paid funeral plans
Planning ahead for your funeral is one of the most thoughtful and caring things you can do. Some people never get round to discussing funeral wishes with their loved ones, which can lead to all sorts of worry and anxiety when the time comes.

Taking out a funeral plan is a simple and straightforward way to remove this worry, and it can provide real financial benefits too.

Memorials
We work closely with a local stonemason to ensure individual attention to your requirements, incorporating photos, artwork and using special stone. We provide both new memorials and offer a service to add inscriptions to existing memorials. We also offer a cleaning and repair service.

The Lounge – Our Private Function Room
Our air-conditioned lounge is tastefully decorated and furnished and is an ideal place to use when relatives prefer not to start the funeral from a private house. The lounge is separate from our main office, has its own private facilities and has French doors leading out into a secluded courtyard garden, which looks beautiful during the summer months.

Embalming
The embalming process can restore natural appearances and affords freedom from infection to those handling and viewing the deceased. It delays changes to the body which occur after death, in some situations increasing the gift of visiting time between death and the funeral. There is an extra charge for embalming, which can be found on our additional services price list.

Viewing
Our private, peaceful, chapels of rest allow you to pay your last respects to your loved one. These are air-conditioned and have a number of seats for your comfort. We ask that you make an appointment to view and if you should need any help during your visit, a member of staff can accompany you. If you wish to provide a set of clothing for the deceased, we ask that you bring this prior to viewing so that dressing may take place. Otherwise you can select one of our gowns at the time of arranging the funeral. If you simply wish to sit alongside the closed coffin in one of our chapels, we are happy to arrange this for you. We can also arrange to have the coffin brought to your home or taken into church prior to the funeral service, for family and friends to pay their final respects.

Newspaper announcements
We will be pleased to help compile and place on your behalf, death announcements and acknowledgements in both local and national papers. The newspapers will invoice us directly and we will add this to your funeral invoice. We can also offer an online digital tribute page through our service provider.

Donations
Many people decide to accept donations to charity either instead of, or as well as, flowers. H. Porter & Sons offers two donation management services. H. Porter & Sons can undertake the administration of donations. There is a charge for this service as per our standardised price list. We will make sure that all aspects of the collection of donations are undertaken, recorded and sent with a covering letter to the nominated charity with a full audit trail. H. Porter & Sons also offers the collection of donations on the day of the funeral via a donation box, free of charge. This service includes returning the donations immediately to our client in a sealed donation envelope, to forward on to their nominated charities. We can also offer online digital donation collections, through our service provider.

Recording names
If requested, we can record the names of those attending the service and provide clients with a printed list. There is an additional charge for this service.

Orders of service and other printing
You may wish to have personalised service sheets printed, giving the order of service and hymns. We can design and print these in consultation with the officiating minister and yourself. Please let us know as soon as possible if this service is required. These service sheets can also have details of where mourners should go after the funeral, if you are planning refreshments. We can also include a photo of the deceased on the front cover. We will be pleased to show you our samples of service sheets, which can usually be printed within 24 hours.

Flowers
We offer a wide range of floral tributes from wreaths to coffin sprays, crosses and specialist designs. We will be on hand to help you at every step and guide you as needed. Our floral tributes are handmade with the freshest flowers and the utmost care. The cost for the flowers can be added to the final funeral account. All florists will deliver either to an address you request, or to our premises prior to the funeral.

In many cases it is possible to tailor a memorial exactly to your requirements, incorporating photos, artwork and using special stone.
We provide both new memorials and offer a service to add inscriptions to existing memorials. We also offer a cleaning and repair service.
We have a selection of burial headstones and memorial tablets on display in our offices, along with a number of different stone samples. We are happy to provide a no obligation quotation and to provide an illustration of how the finished memorial would look.

Our funeral plan is available to UK residents and there are no complicated medical forms to complete. You can also appoint a nominated representative who we will keep informed about your plan, according to your instructions.
Our plans cover our costs (as specified in the plan paperwork) as long as we carry out the funeral and your requirements don’t change. You can also make a contribution towards third party costs, such as the cremation fees. These costs are outside of our control.

All funeral plan pre-payments are held in an individual whole of life assurance policy for your peace of mind.

Our funeral plans are provided by Ecclesiastical Planning Services Limited, which is part of a specialist, UK-based financial services group.
[H3] Flexible payment options
You can choose to pay for your funeral plan by lump sum or in instalments. There is an additional cost for paying over two or more years and eligibility criteria applies. Please refer to the Instalment Q&A and the Terms and Conditions for more information. Your funeral director will be able to provide you with a personalised quote.
Once your funeral plan is in place, you’ll receive a welcome booklet containing the details of your plan and your funeral plan certificate. Your nominated representative will also receive a copy if you request this.

Catering service in our private, welcoming, tasteful and tranquil Lounge

Our air-conditioned, licensed lounge is tastefully decorated and furnished and is an ideal place for a wake or to use where relatives prefer not to start the funeral from a private house. The lounge is separate from our main office, has its own private facilities and has French doors leading out into a secluded courtyard garden, which looks beautiful during the summer months.
We ask for a minimum of 48 hours’ notice to be given if you wish to use the lounge for refreshments and refer you to the menus available from our offices.
Special diets can be catered for and if you are looking for an alternative selection of food to the menus detailed, we can discuss that with you. We can also provide tea, cakes and biscuits, if you require a lighter alternative. Wine, sparkling wine and sherry are available by the bottle, and beer, cider and soft drinks are also available for purchase.
Please note that smoking is not permitted in our lounge.
The lounge is served by two toilets, one of which is wheelchair accessible and has baby-changing facilities.
Car parking is at the rear of our premises accessible from our Glebe Lane entrance.
There are two disabled parking spaces to the front of our premises and ramps are available for wheelchair access to all areas.
We respectfully request that the lounge is vacated two hours after your arrival.
We can also arrange catering in your own home or another venue.
Our facilities for children include baby-change facilities, a high chair and a toy basket with jigsaws, books and colouring.
