Traditionally, a hearse will carry the coffin to the funeral service. Family members can then choose to travel with the funeral procession in our modern black limousines, or you can choose your own transport if you wish.We understand the importance of making a funeral fulfil your needs and wishes, and therefore we give you the option to choose a specific procession route. Families will often choose a route that passes by a favourite or memorable location of the deceased. By choosing a unique route, this will make the service feel more personal. The route can be arranged in the initial planning appointment.

You can choose from a horse and carriage, motorcycles with sidecars or classic cars for a bespoke touch. In addition, you will also need to know who to inform and how to go about these processes. Knowing what to do when a death occurs can help relieve further distress at this time.To register a death, this will need to be done with the local authority and district where the death occurred. Our funeral directors can advise where to register the death, and we have a list of local registry offices for you to contact.

Knowing what to do when someone dies can help you prepare and avoid further stress when the death occurs. When someone dies, there are several steps that need to be completed within a certain time frame. These include informing the right people and obtaining a medical certificate. Our useful guide will explain some of the most important arrangements that need to be made.

[H2] Obtaining a Medical Certificate

Obtaining a medical certificate can differ depending on the circumstances. However, there is no need to worry as we are here to make this process easier. The following options will explain what to do in these different circumstances.

[H3] When a Death Occurs at Hospital

If a person dies in hospital, the body will be taken to the hospital mortuary. A doctor will then issue the medical certificate, provided that the death was not subject to unusual circumstances.

[H3] When a Death Occurs at Home or in a Nursing Home

When a death occurs at home or in a nursing home, you should inform a doctor as soon as possible. They will visit and issue a medical certificate, provided there are no unusual circumstances.

[H3] When HM Coroner Becomes Involved

If the death was unexpected or happened under unusual circumstances, you must contact the emergency services as a matter of urgency. If the circumstances surrounding the death mean a doctor cannot issue the certificate, HM Coroner may need to get involved. The body will be transported to the hospital mortuary and often a post-mortem will be requested at this stage. The certificate cannot be issued until the cause of death is identified by the Coroner.
